okay, lets see if I can get this out w/out going into a ton of frivolous detail. Basically my ex is trying to take custody of our daughter away from me. He's not even seen her in 5 years & claims he's not known where we've been since '01(though I have PROOF otherwise) he's also well over 30K in arrears of child support. He is claiming I am "unfit" & that I am bipolar & violent. he has said this in some pre-trial documents and has absolutely ZERO evidence. The people he has listed as "his" witnesses do not even know me! I'm sure he's been telling them all sorts of b.s. tales about me just as he told me about his 1st wife while we were married. Of course there is a ton more to this but my real ? is, can I write a heartfelt letter to these people & tell them the TRUTH and ask them to think of the damage even going through this process (interivews etc etc) would do to an innocent child? Is it legal for me to contact these folks? I'd like to get a handle on this before any trial...

I mistyped, it's not going straight to trial. I should have said I'd like them to know both sides before this goes any further. My #1 concern is NOT to say bad things about him (though it would be easy enough to do) but to protect a child who should not be a pawn....he has NEVER thought of her good, only HIS selfish motives. thank you in advance for your constructive comments.

Thank you all for your quick answers. "Sunshine", there is no way in the world you can tell if someone is bipolar or not from a few paragraphs. NO ONE other than my ex has said I'm bi-bolar & yes, I have been evaluated. I am very sad for your kids & gkids "sunshine" with you jumping to conclusions about people like that. You might give some thought to what kind of example of compassion or keeping ones mind open to BOTH sides of sitations you are NOT giving.
As to the rest, I guess we'll have to just do this in court. It just makes me sad for a sweet little girl... I have never kept her from her father. He only shows interest now as he is remarried & trying to play good guy for 2 seconds & he is also trying to get out of paying the CS which I DO NOT CARE about by the way & just included that to show he does not give a rats behind about our child.
Thank you all again & I hope you all have a nice time through the Holidays (whatever you celebrate).

There is nothing to prevent you from contacting them. However, I would use an attorney and ask that this be done. They can be discredited in the courtroom with questions such as 'how well do you know Ms. So-and-So? When they fail to answer in much detail your attorney can take them on the run so to speak and completely discredit their testimony.

Do this: take a deep breath. This is all just a test. Control yourself through this ordeal and find a support network to keep you happy, calm, collected and poised throughout this. Family is okay...church is better since they are more objective than family alone.

The bottom line is, if you feel you are 'right' and he is wrong I would avoid putting much stock into this ordeal.

Remember, you do have the right to know what kind of opposition you potentially face in a courtroom trial. In fact you have many rights. Take advantage of all of them! Best of wishes.

Don't you think this is more propaganda than question? Let's just look at the whole attempted impeachment thing. A young woman from a prominent REPUBLICAN family gets a job at the White House in those long ago bipartisan days, and starts hitting on the Man. She is young and attractive, and he is a guy. Eventually the intern gets the Man alone, and goes down on him. I personally find that disappointing in a married man, and reprehensible on the part of the woman, who knew he was married. He comes, and she gets it on her expensive dress. Does she get it cleaned, so she can wear it again? No! She saves it, Presidential sperm and all, as though she knew she would want it for evidence. Then she tells a notorious gossip about the whole thing. Once it comes out, of course the married man denies it to protect his marriage and family. Tell me that 90% of us would not. Somehow this sordid little liason becomes relevant to the conduct of government, and the Senate investigates. Having lied to protect his family, the President still hedges when the Senate and House make it their business. Because there is nothing else these political enemies can get him for, they impeach him for the evasions. There are, however, enough senators with the sense to see this is all politically driven by people like Tom DeLay and Newt Gingrich, whose righteousness knows no bounds and whose infidelities are legion. The impeachment rightly fails. NOT GUILTY. No crime was committed. Now, let us consider that Clinton was set up. Why else would Ms. Lewinsky not clean the dress, but keep it in a plastic evidence bag? She KNEW it would be the clincher, and was probably acting on advice. Then consider, what relevance is there in any person's personal life when their conduct does not affect affairs of state. Both Franklin Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower were evidently unfaithful husbands. The Republicans insist that JFK was doing Marilyn Monroe in the Oval Office, but his aides (JK Galbraith and Ted Sorenson) both insisted that they did not believe it, and they were on the other side of the door. Still, until Clinton the President's personal privacy was respected. This breach of protocol was most likely part of a deep laid plan to disrupt the Administration of the United States of America for the political gain of the republican Party. Who else stood to gain? So what we have here is a redredging of the sewer created by a conspiracy of neoMcCarthyite pimps, who violated protocol so that they could impeach the President for doing the very thing they themselves were doing! Now ask yourself why they are bringing this up? They are doing this to attack the wronged wife! What absolute cheek! For partisan purposes they attempt a coup d'etat, and in the process humiliate the wife and family of their victim. Do they feel remorse? Not a chance. They spend the next ten years beating Mrs. Clinton up for staying with the father of her child and making her marriage work. If they are correct, and there is an Almighty God who will punish those who knowingly do evil, they should burn in Hell for that one. Remember when the Clinton haters trot this one out that it was a set up, and that the actors had no care or concern for either the pain they caused the families or the disruption they created in the conduct of our national business. If there are villains in this business anywhere, they are Republicans. Then ask yourself this: how can her conduct throughout be construed in any way to discredit Mrs. Clinton? What conceivable relevance does this issue have? It is cheap shots like this that have turned me against the Bush League, and many others as well. We are sick to death of the character assassination and slander that have replaced reasoned debate and compromise in public life. That's why we turfed enough Republicans to cost them the majority: to tell them we wanted them to amend their behaviour. Obviously they have not listened. This neabs we must speak louder. NOW HEAR THIS: PRESIDENT HILLARY CLINTON! That should let them know we were not listening, and will not listen to their cheap shots and innuendo. Any Democrat would win, but I predict she will win the primaries because of the sympathy vote kindly generated by Rush Limbaugh and his fellow lickspittles at Fox. Maybe the President after her can be elected because they were the right person for the job, but right now we just want to send old Rush a message.

where the hell you find your ex bad after having a child thru him and you also believed his stories about his first ex and enjoyued. Now you do not want him to meet your daughter.

If you can shower love & affection show that to your ex and get out of court. Do not shine a torch to show a rising sun.

If you have come to a conclusion of not to live with him anymore, just leave it to your attorney and he will take care and do not worry. There is cross Examination and do not worry.

You cannot state your "case" to them. Your lawyer can interview them to find out their information, so that rebuttals can be prepared. That's it.

From your information, the legal process in progress, you cannot interfere with potential witnesses. A judge would not be kind to you for doing that. Get a great lawyer and a thick skin.

NO, your attorney can contract them to question them as to what they know.

Your duty in court would be to prove they don't know the truth or don't know you and to prove your case with your witnesses.

Would that be "witness tampering"? Contacting his witnesses without your lawyer would be bordering on harassment. Have your lawyer contact them.
