I have heard of this before, but wasn't sure. Why would a religion do that? If it's true than that's just wrong.

On Judgement Day, when an individual is called upon by God to receive judgement, he or she will be addressed as the son or the daughter of the mother, not the father. For example, in your case, if you have a child, it will be known as the son or daughter of Gianna, not your husband. Reason being, this is to give loftiness in upholding the women's effort and sweat of raising a child for the righteous among the women... AND to hide the shame of the women who may or may not know who fathered the child - to protect her from shame that everyone on Judgement Day, especially the husband (who may think he IS the only one), CAN know.

What I'm trying to put across here is this.

In our world, this coming from me, a MAN, everything is easily said that men have supremacy over many things... not just, as how you've viewed, in Islam. In my perspective, women will only feel sexually oppressed when they try to strive equally as men. Similarly, though it is usually seen as a JOKE thus seldom taken in seriously, when men strive to equal the women, we can obviously see how terribly wrong it can be.

Not to say that women should know their place in a house.
Not to say that the women office is the kitchen.
Not to say that the tools of machinery for women is the mop.

Take a look around you. Proffessionals, Presidents, Doctors, Lawyers, what have you. Who raised them? MOTHERS!
And mothers give their sons the limitless boundaries to become leaders, ministers, professionals.
Not so for the daughters cos mothers know that daughters will observe their mothers and their ways to raise their own to far better than their own siblings.

Women naturally know what is best for whatever that is good for the family, community, nation, the world and most importantly, themselves.

Islam is by far the most oppresive to woman. This insane Idea that "all religions" are equally bad or good or oppresive is only made by ignorant fools (see above).

Religions were, for the most part, written by men for men.

For example, did you know that according to the bible, if a man rapes an unbetrothed virgin, he must pay her father 50 shekels of silver and then marry her?

not true...look i am married to a Muslim man from Arabia and and he follows Qu'ran and the Prophet Muhammed. the least i can say how he treats me is like a PRINCESS. he told me we are both equal in front of God. he said its only the extremists who accept the harsh treatment of women (taliban, wahhabism) but its not accepted by the Prophet or Qu'ran.

you're right on both counts. islam discounts women, makes them cover all their skin so the men don't erect tents in their pants, and gives men 72 virgins when they get to heaven after killing nonbelievers for allah. nice religion, eh?

God created affection and mercy between the wife and husband.

[21] And among His Signs is this, that He created for you wives from among yourselves, that you may find repose in them, and He has put between you affection and mercy. Verily, in that are indeed signs for a people who reflect.
