She has an ex-boyfriend who just recently left here... litterally. She still calls him her b/f, but he's not here anymore. I like this girl and I care for her, but I wanna know how to win her over if she still has these mindsets. It's been pretty recent (only a few weeks) and I know it's going to take time, but I think I could win her over. I already know her pretty well, I'm not really a friend, I'm kinda starting at the "I'm starting to know you phase". We've hung out a couple times, and I talk to her somewhat. I speak with her on AIM sometimes. I'm trying to stay distant so she doesn't think I'm too into her... the last thing I wanna do is scare her off, and that might scare her off right now. So tell me, how can I win her heart and how long will this take? How long will she start to consider me a viable b/f option?

Is she still in contact with her "bf"? If so then she probably thinks they are still together. If not then what you are doing is exactly what you should be doing. Get to be her friend first and then an even better friend. When you are comfortable enough you can ask her out but if that scares you then ask her if she'd like to hang out with you and your friends and tell her what the activity will be (bowling, arcade, movie, etc). It might take several months of her joining you and your friends before you feel you can safely ask her out on a one on one....but by then you should be able to gage for yourself when the time is right.
