If your doc prescribed it, you most certainly need it. If you are feeling bad & a pill can help, you should at least give it a shot. It may take a few days or even weeks to see improvement, so stick with it. You take tylenol when you have a headache, right? It's worth a shot. I had the same reservations about antidepressants. I'm glad I gave it a chance.
If you are afraid of the side effects, remember that meds can effect everyone differently and particular people differently at various times. Wellbutrin is also marketed as Zyban for people trying to quit smoking. I took it 5 years ago to quit smoking & had no trouble. When I tried taking it again a few weeks ago for depression, I got very dizzy. The doc switched me to Cymbalta and I am not having the side effects. Try Wellbutrin. Your doctor can change you to something else if you have side effects.
You should also consider counseling. If your doc doesn't bring it up, ask! It will help you resolve the problems that led your doc to prescribe the pills. The pills are just a bandaid. You need to resolve the problems so you can kick the pills and get on with your life. Hope you feel better!!

I credit Wellbutrin with saving my life. No joke. I had tried numerous other medications that had some realy bad side effects or quite for some other reason. I was hospitalized for the fourth time in Oct. They started me on Wellbutrin while I was there. I had very few side effects, I have quite smoking and lost a few pounds. More importantly I felt like I had the energy to face life again and for the first time in years would go days without thinking about ending my own life.
I'm not saying that everything is all peachy now, I still have good and bad days like everyone else, and I still have lots of emotional problems to work through. I'm just saying that for me Wellbutrin was extremely helpful. It may not have the same effect for you. If not then keep trying.

I understand your reluctance about taking any medication for depression, however, I do! And Welbutrin is the one I take. I feel so much better when I'm taking it. No I don't live in LaLaLa land either, I just have a sense of well-being that I didn't have before I started.(which is really nice when you've been depressed) The one side affect that I really like, it slows down my appetite so I don't want to eat all the time. The one thing that does worry me about any medication, is how it goes through my system. I have one kidney, and am in chronic kidney failure, so therefore I have some serious concerns. I guess I need to look it up on the internet. You see I am bipolar, and welbutrin has been the most effective for the depressive side of bipolar, with the least amount of side affects. However, when my kidney wasn't flushing the medicine through, I did get overdosed, and had a problem with balance. But under normal circumstances, that shouldn't happen. If you have no other issues involving your kidneys or liver, you should be fine. I have had a birth defect kidney problem all my life, so it wasn't caused by medications or any thing else. The better way you are able to think and feel about yourself, far out ways the problems of taking a medication.

Actually Wellbutrin helped me with depression and to stop smoking.
Sometimes I think people's reluctance to take meds is partly due to their reluctance to get better....it's easier to stay depressed. Not saying that is true for your case, just a casual observation.
Good luck, and whatever you decide, don't be scared. It's not that big of a deal.

oh its no big deal. its just a mild stimulant.. kinda like a cup of strong coffee.
it certainly isnt that drastic. its not as big of a deal as ur making it out to be. ur just a little more awake and a little more interested in life and whatnot. its not going to change "who you are" if thats what ur scared of.
