preheat oven to 350 degrees. wash and dry potato. wrap completely with foil. place on oen rack, and bake for 45-60 minutes. the potato will be done when you can slightly squeeze the sides ( not mushy though).

Microwave

I'm kinda impatient. When I want a baked potato, I want it Now !

Wash/scrub, poke a few holes with a fork put it in the micro about 6 minutes, not 60 as in oven-baked.

However, you do need to cover them and let them sit for 5 min before eating.
I use this time to chop chives or tops of green onions.

Cut potatoes about 1/2 way down the long way, then a couple of diagonal slices on top, about 1/3 way down.
Hands at both ends, then push toward middle.
In the newly created cavity, sprinkle salt, add butter, sour cream, slight sprinkle of salt, then the chives/onion tops.

Don't know if this is excess but mmm mmm good !

Make several gashes across the potato top, insert sliced sweet onion, wrap a slice of bacon around it to hold it closed, secure with a toothpick and then wrap the whole thing in foil. Place on a pan in oven for about an hour at 350, and enjoy the aroma til you can actually pull it form the oven, crack it open and add butter and sour cream and scarf it down!

This is how it's done in a Steak House.
Pre-heat the oven @ 500 deg.
Wash 'n' scrub the potatos well.
Poke them with a knife place them on a
pan and put them in the oven.
Bake them @ 500 deg. for 1/2 hour, then
turn down the heat to 350 deg. for second
1/2 hour.
To serve, wrap them individually in a sheet
of foil.
Slice them 1/4 way down lengthwise and
with both hands, grab each end and
compress towards the center. Once they're
open, sprinkle some salt and pepper.
You can add your butter and sour cream
or whatever you wish at this time.
Enjoy!

Both are good----#1 Scrub pot, dry and rub with olive oil....bake at 350 until knife tells u pot is tender in middle.....Remove.....cut in half, scoop out middle into a small mixing bowl. Add 1 tbls butter or marg, salt, pepper, 1 tbls sourcream(OPT) and a little milk.....cream together and stuff back in shells.....top with cheese and put back in oven until cheese melts and is lightly browned.
#2 Scrub, dry, rub with oil and wrap in foil.....Bake 350 until tender in middle(knife test). Remove from oven. Leave in foil and drop on counter top two or three times.....this loosens the potato from the skin.....cut through foil, squeeze to open pot, stuff with the usual......butter , s & p, sour cream, cheese, etc Happy cooking

I wash my potato well and then poke holes in it with a knife...wrap it in heavy duty foil and bake at 425 for about an hour...may take longer for a bigger potato....put lots of butter, sour cream and chives and enjoy!!!! I think I'll make one tonight!

I don't use foil, just scrub the potato really well, dry it and poke holes in it with a fork, then bake at 350 for one hour. Split it lengthwise and add butter, sour cream or whatever you like.

When I do it I first microwave it + then put it in the oven with my chicken or pork chops and bake for about 20-22 minutes at 400 degrees, taste like you did it in the oven.

keep foil in cupboard. Stab potato. 5 minutes in microwave. Turn over,5 more minutes. Makes great pocket hand warmers in a cold day outside.

MIcrowave it. It is so much faster and tastes exactly the same. 5 - 10 minutes depending on the size of the potato and power of the microwave.
