Yes, there are. You can't taste them but they're in there. To make your own:
(1) cup 2% or whole milk, don't use skim
(1) egg
(1/2) teaspoon vanilla extract
(1) tablespoon sugar
Booze to taste - brandy or rum (I usually drink the "virgin" version)

Put all of the above in a blender for a minute or so, so it makes a froth on the top. Pour into a glass and top with ground nutmeg.

The type of eggnog that you buy in a carton at the supermarket is very sweet and has some cream added to it, but basically has the same ingredients as the above, except the alcohol.

Yes, lots of eggs. Here's a traditional recipe for eggnog.

6 eggs
1 cup + 1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3/4 cup brandy
1/3 cup dark rum
2 cups whipping cream
2 cups milk

All liquids should be very cold. Refrigerate in advance.

Beat the eggs for 2 or 3 minutes with an electric mixer at medium speed until very frothy. Gradually beat in the sugar, vanilla and nutmeg. Turn the mixer off and stir in the cold brandy, rum, whipping cream and milk Chill before serving. Sprinkle individual servings with more nutmeg.

Makes about 2-1/2 quarts.

This is one that doesn't have Alcohol in it:

6 eggs
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 quart milk
1/3 pint heavy whipping cream
1 pinch ground nutmeg
1 pinch salt

DIRECTIONS
Beat eggs; mix in condensed milk, vanilla, quart of milk and salt.
Beat the whipping cream until soft peaks form. Fold in to egg and milk mixture and sprinkle with nutmeg. Serve chilled.

well, if it is natural eggnog there are eggs. But the kinds you buy in stores that don't say natural eggnog is artificial. And sure, you can make eggnog, it tastes great. Just stir eggs, cold water, sugar, and milk together and there, you've got eggnog! =D
