The better question might be about airspace at a given airport. I would categorize a commercial airport as one where light airplane traffic is routinely not allowed/wanted. IE. Miami International, Newark International. A lot of big heavy fast plans with large wake turbulence do not mix well with light slow planes.

A commercial airport would have 1) Very long runways, for big heavy fast aircraft. 2) A control tower 3) At least class C airspace. 4) Very active security

A GA (General Aviation airport), 1) Smaller, narrower, shorter runway(s) 2) Maybe a control tower, maybe not 3) Class D or lower airspace, unless shared with a larger airports class C or better.

Hope this helps

A commercial airport is an airport designated strictly for commercial aviation, both passenger and cargo, whereas private/corporate planes use the airports designated as General Aviation airports.

All airports have aircraft land and take off, commercial airports handle commercial planes (United, Delta, Southwest etc etc) Some airports are military only and some are private pilot only, no commercial flights.

distinction between commercial (with commercial flights) and private airports. I suppose there would also be a distinction between a commercial and an international airport.
