Christians this is something Id like you to understand to better your faith, and non christians this is something Id like you to understand for the sake of understanding.
There are a lot of misconceptions about prayer. When it was written that what you ask of God you shall recieve does not mean your earthly desires. This is something a lot of Christians and non-christians don't understand about prayer. praying "in faith" means that what you ask is based upon your desire to be closer to God, to know God more. Everytime you ask this of God does he not answer? It is not God's will to grant us the meaningless things that people pray for like a raise at thier job, an A on a test, or a new car. Whatever you ask in faith you shall recieve means that when you ask something of Him that brings you closer to Him, you will never be denied. Never. Your faith is what God wants to strengthen and make grow, not your earthly pleasures or concerns. Please don't waste God's time praying selfishly

You're right. We must pray according to His will for our lives. However, sometimes, we aren't sure whether or not this "new job" is His will or not, so praying about it is not wrong. His NO, is His answer. I still believe when we don't know or are unsure of something, we should do as the scripture says and come BOLDLY before the throne of grace to find help in time of need.

right. but what if my getting a new car WOULD bring me closer to him? first of all, it would show me that he is listening. what you are suggesting is that praying to god for things that bring you closer to him are just things which cannot be seen. i dare you to pray to god for these things which cannot be seen, and then pray to a milk dud for the same thing. you will, i guarantee, get the same response. people who pray to god for things that they already know he wants or will do are just copping out. "I prayed that the sun would rise tomorrow," and when it does happen... lo and behold... god is real. or, I prayed the same prayer to my christmas cactus... lo and behold... the cactus answered my prayer. do you see what I'm saying? it takes away the very point of prayer if there are no effects. you cannot even pray for some loved one's health! it is shown through many MANY tests that prayers of that sort make no difference. NONE. so if god won't deliver a car to make me believe in him, he won't answer any prayer that has physical evidence, nor that which cannot also be attributed to a cactus, nor even heal my loved one... then what good is he? and what good is prayer?
EDIT:
oh, and if you give me a thumbs down LOL it only means you kow I'm right... so there... deal with that LOL

I think you are right, but He does answer our prayers for our earthly needs. It has happened to me too many times to doubt. He is involved in our daily lives so it is not wrong to ask God for those needs.

Yes in asking according to HIS will. You can want to get your brothers wife because of a lust issue, but God is not a divine vending machine. It is not God's will that one man take his brothers wife...so He isn't going to alter that to facilitate a man's sinning. Sometimes saying no is the most loving thing God can do for us. We don't always want what is best for us.

When pray to God, I ask him to stop being so mean. Stop punishing us all for what Adam and Eve did. If Satan was a mistake, get rid of him. And stop making all those deformed babys, that's just plain cruel.
Is that too selfish a request?

What about all those stories of "god" making a miracle and keeping people from dying or coming coming out of coma when there was VERY little chance of that happening, etc etc. How is bringing someone back to life going to bring you closer to "god"? And wut about those who don't get their miracle and turn away from god? Is someone's life "meaningless"?

God answers all our prayers, and he promises to provide for us. If provision for us requires a higher paying job, it certainly is no problem for him to provide it. Of course, we have to do our part, too; we have to go out and knock on some doors.....!

You asked elsewhere why no one answers your questions, I think you will find that this question answers your own question, Its too long, it rambles and to answer it properly would take at least a 500 word answer, And you will find that for the most part it will only be Christians that reply
