Just give him the reasons on why you don't want to be with him anymore. Be direct and honest. Get it done, over with and move on.
If you make up lines, it'll might get worse... cuz he might ask more questions.
If you were getting dumped, you'd want the truth right? Instead of an excuse line.

"I'd be lying if I said that I didn't enjoy the company of small furry animals."
OR
"Barbara says that she could satisfy me more than you. I said OK"

If you think, it's difficult to talk to him and break up (If he won't accept), then ask one of your guy friends (not known to him) to act like makin' out with you, where he accidently sees you both.
