I used to buy great beef sandwiches at Cas & Lou's Italian Restaurant years ago (on Irving Park). After they closed it's been hard to find a place that makes them as good.
I have tried several places since they closed, like TOOT's, which was ok but nothing compared to Cas & Lou's.
Portillo's is ok but there isn't one close by on the northwestside of the city.
If you know of a great Italian Beef Sandwich on the nothwestside of Chicago let me know.
Thanks

Johnnies (Elmwood Park) & Pops (Palos Heights) are great beef
BUT on the north west side:
Roma's 4237 N Cicero, great beef and Green River too
Max's 5745 N Western, great beef and Ghetto Fries

I know you said N-west side and I only can think of Connie's on the N. side of North Ave. at about Austin .... great chacoal sausage.too.
But as far as a great combination of taste, portion and price you gotta travel southwest to Tony's at about 70th and Pulaski.
I've been living on the Northside and I can't believe what people pay for half the sandwich that Tony gives you out there !!
Maybe it's the property taxes, but $6.00 for a little stringy, soggy mess ( around Wrigley) ?? ...and $ 3.50 will get you a combo or double sausage at Tony's..... gotta be almost a foot long, too.

I knew the previous owner of Michael's on North Ave. and he had the best beef. He gave the recipe to the new owner but you can check if it's still good or not.

Have you tried Rosatti's? They are located in Chicago, they are really good, so good that they have expanded into various states. I live in Las Vegas, Nevada and they are out of Chicago, and my husband and I love their Italian Beef and also their pizza is to die for. Check them out! Assuming that you have not already.
