Peter K:
What a loaded liberal question.
Your premise that Canada has a tradition as peace-keeping only is bogus. Canada has fought in and played a major role in, necessary wars to keep not just ourselves free from tyranny, slavery, and murder, but others as well.
World War I - 619, 636 Canadians serve, 66, 655 give their lives.
World War II - 1.1 million Canadians serve, 40, 000 give their lives.
With just those two wars alone, you have just spat upon the graves of over 100,000 Canadians, Peter K. Shame on you. Those men and women died for your freedom to be a mindless jerk.

peter: Freedom (the right to be wrong), is the backbone of democracy and has to be both, retained and maintained ! We have the opportunity to make a choice. We, as Canadians, can ignore the strangle hold Muslim extremists [Taliban] have on their own fellow, country men or "go to bat" for them and present the Afghan people with the same right to be wrong [freedom] we have here, in Canada. Also; we need to think more outside the proverbial "box" in terms of our own Country ! Our troops can contain the Taliban terrorists over in Afghanistan or have them [Taliban] gain the upper hand, turn Afghanistan into a Country for training Muslim extremist terrorists and come to us, on our own soil. You nor any Canadian (in there logical, rationale mind), would desire that ! Just think of it ... explosions everywhere, our hydro knocked out (in Winter), people loosing loved ones ... this is not thinking "Canadian" ... but Jack Layton mind-set !!! We can do it now, over in Afghanistan, or later, here, on our streets ... choose ? !!! War is as old as prostitution and always will be with us until people quit trying to "get" something from others even, to fight them for it !!! - It will never happen.

I think your premise is wrong. Traditionally, Canada has held it's own in world conflicts and the only people that believe that 'traditionally peacekeeping country' thing is a myth perpetuated by weedy liberals.

As a Canadian, I can speak on this.
That depends. The invasion of Afghanistan was justified given the attack on the US. However, I think Canada needs to stay out of Iraq. Iraq had no part in it and theres no need for us to be there. Justice has been carried out. The job is over.

I too, would like to see our soldiers come home. Our town has already lost one boy. But it may be a worse thing for them to just leave. If we leave, the local warlords and drug traffickers will be unopposed. I do think, however, that history is against us in this. How many western nations have already tried--and failed--to calm that storm?

No. Canada is a peace keeping country, not an agitator.
