I'm due tomorrow and I was talking to my doctor about birth control for after I give birth. My doctor said that I'm probably not a candidate to get an IUD, because they are only for women who don't plan on having anymore children. She said there is a risk of infection and that it could cause me to not have kids ever again!

Have you ever heard this? When I first got pregnant she told me it was a good choice for after I have the baby, but now she told me the opposite!

Has anyone had an IUD, and what was your experience with it?

Thank you!

Yes if you have multiple partners or your partner does then NO your not a good candidate for the IUD bc when you have multiple partners you are at a HIGH risk of infection and with the IUD in place its hard to treat and if an infection is not treated promptly it can cause fertility issues. The reason why I opted for it was bc I am unsure if I want children anytime soon. However if you are not at risk I would say go for it. Your fertility returns within removal of the IUD. Ive seen many successful patients best of luck

I just got the IUD after I had my daughter in September and I didnt get the IUD until the first of November. The only reason your doctor might have told you it would not be a good idea for people that dont plan on having anymore children is because depending on the type of IUD they are good for 5-10 years. You can get them removed anytime after it is put in! I love the IUD and I think it is the best form of birth control for mothers. I hope I was useful, good luck!

I have the Mirena IUD. I haven't had any problems with it. The only risk of infection is if you have more then one partner. I do not plan to have any more children, but there are many woman on here that have had their IUD's removed and gotten pregnant! If I were you I would get a second opinion. Do some more research!!

I choose an IUD after having my second child. I like it, I don't have to worry about taking a pill or putting anything up there. The risk of infection, as my dr. told me, was not that high unless you were not in a committed relationship. So, if you have multiple partners, or your partner has multiple partners, don't do it.
The main reason I got mine was because my husband and I are undecided about having children in the future. The one I got is good for 5 yrs, so we have a while to decide. Good luck!

I had my iud put in when my youngest was 7 month. My doctor told me that infection is rare and ectopic pregnancy is possible but not one has been recorded in 10 plus years. (aust.) And she also told me i can fall pregnant straight away after it gets taken out. Although a little longer for some. Go see another doctor or even see a gynaecologist for more info. Its worth it and the last thing you want to worry about is taking a pill when you have children.

I put in my iud after i had my son in march and i've never heard of such thing. For me the iud was perfect i don't have to worry about taking a pill at the same time every day. The only symptom i have is that i get spotting around the week before i get my period.
