It's up to you! I have received over the years way too many mugs. I do like little gift bags filled with 'my favorites'. Such as teas, chocolates, candies. My gifts received this year so far..... photo frame, photo album for class (we have a cheapy bargain outlet in town, I know these came from there, they are 'burnes of boston frames', but cost under $5), a 'holiday design' hersey bar w/ a cute note, baggie fillled w/ chocolate covered pretzels, another bag w/ a tea and a couple of homemade cookies and a nice note. I know one girl will probably give me the same as last year, a card where she writes her name in it, and a homemade paper ornament (last yr it was a paper cut-out of a tree, w/glitter.) I do like the personal touch, something simple and a heartfelt note. and those that elect not to send something in, that's OK. Parents can do as they wish, it is not up to me to ever judge someone just cause they didn't tell me 'merry christmas'.

They get things and probably have so much they aren't keeping it all. My favorite thing to do is have the child make the gift. Look up some craft project, or make a card together,or buy a little project for the child to do while you are busy doing other things and have the child give this. You could also make a tin of cookies or something that you may be doing anyways. A couple wrapped in tissue with a card is plenty. It's the thought that counts and it teaches the child to give and makes them feel good. It's not the gift, it's the giving of it that teaches. Merry Christmas.

The last time I stoped doing that was in the 5th grade. I'm in 7th grade, and it is very rare that anyone really does. I suggest you should, just so you get on her good side. His 5th grade year should be the last year you do it, unless 6th grade at your son's school is considered Lower School/Elementary school as well. At my school, 6th grade is to be a part of Middle School. A few years ago, 5TH grade was even considered a part of the Middle School, but the 5th Graders had one teacher and one class. We still do...it's complex...e-mail me if you want to know. But I think you should give a little gift. Try candles. You can go to stores like Yankee Candle company. Or give gift certificates and a nice card to a hot spot resturaunt in your town. Merry Christmas!

You don't need to, but if you think that she has done an exceptional job of helping to educate your child, it would be nice. Teachers are always appreciative mostly of your acknowledgement of the effort they put in. They work hard to educate and prepare yong children for their schooling years ahead of them, and a thank you is much appreciated. It doesn't have to be much... just a card or small gift your child has made, a gift card to her favorite restaurant, a movie certificate or whatever you think is appropriate based on your relationship.

You don't HAVE TO, but it would be nice if you feel that the teacher has done well for your child & if your child wants to.
It's a way of showing gratitude & appreciation for what the teacher has done throughout the year.
It can also give your chihld a good feeling to be able to 'give something back' to the teacher.

I think it's a matter of financial ability for the parent; also most teachers receive so many over the years that perhaps a homemade card would be better, this would be more personal as well.

My son's teacher is getting a pizza hut gift certificate. I figure she has enough mugs and candies and can use this after a long day's work. It will go in a card colored and signed by my DS.

No you don't need to, it would be a nice jesture. Unless of course your trying to send a message that you don't care for her or what she's doing to help your child prepare for kindergarten.
