no not really since the 25th of december has been celebrated as a sacred festival by many systems of belief for 1000's of years so really the Christains are actually benefitting from a holiday they stole

A lot of non Christians celebrate Christmas - but it's not the same as the Christmas Christians celebrate. I don't like the commercialism, but if you want a pretty tree in your house, who am I to say no?
By the way, how can you despise that which you don't believe in? Most atheists I know have no feelings whatsoever about religion as they believe there is no such thing - why get worked up about something that you don't think exists? Perhaps your anger is because deep inside you think there might be a chance that there is something out there?

Despise is a pretty strong word; but if that's how you feel.
For me, I celebrate Jesus' birth (yes and it wasn't exactly 12/25) and share in giving of gifts just as God sent Jesus - a gift of everlasting life. Jesus shows us how to give in the bible.
So.. I guess it'd be best to ask yourself why you give during the season; or is it about receiving? It's not for me to decide what you do is right or wrong; only you know that answer deep down inside. Perhaps you know the answer already and what you "despise" is feeling that maybe you are a part of something and are fighting it?? Dunno....
Good luck

Well, from what I can tell certain people are changing the 'reason for the season' I believe that Christmas is a celebration of Jesus birth. But I have seen so many people get so overwhelmed with buying presents, and decorating there homes, that they forget the reason for the season.... as for you lack of "Faith" I feel sorry for you... Put it this way.. I understand people doubting God and the whole idea... But I would rather believe in something that isn't there, than not believe in something that is! I will say a prayer that God will help you find your way! Merry CHRISTmas!

yeah it is fine. Im a non christian but my beleif is the holiday is for a celebraion with family...you give and recieve gifts. You hang out with family and or friends its great.
I dont beleive in god etc, but i do beleive in spirits and such things.
These days christmas only seems to be a scam for money anyway.
Go on have fun and enjoy it.
Besides, if it was really celebtraing a birthday then why does everyone get presents? Doesnt that defeat the purpose? Why do we celebrate easter by eating chocolate? It doesnt make any sense and all holidays are just scams for money and for ppl to go broke.

Christmas has become a secular holiday. China is a self proclaimed atheist country and are even now celebrating Christmas. People who celebrate this as a secular holiday celebrate family and friends, not Christ. It is not wrong to benefit from it. Christmas was in fact originated from the pagan winter solstice. I'm a christian and I understand all of these things. It does not anger me that the holiday is now secular.

There are several holidays that happen at this time of the year.
Yule, Winter Solstice, Honica, Kwanzaa and the list goes on. Christmas is just one. So in the case of you question they don't benefit from it how every they would benefit under those other holiday if of they are of that faith and/or culture.
Dorothy wake up there a bigger world out there.

Why despise the very idea of God? Its ok to not believe, but its nuts to hate believers and the God you say doesn't exist. Think about how crazy you are - you hate something you believe doesn't exist????????
Its perfectly fine for you to celebrate the birth of Christ.

If you didn't believe in God then I would say "ya, go ahead and enjoy yourself". But you say you" despise the very idea of God", then I would say no. That would make you a hypocrite. How does one despise something that they truly believes doesn't exist? You atheists amaze me, with this one.
