My daughter tries to play with her potty chair. Am I rushing it? Everyone I know says no. I take her in the bathroom with me and sometimes she likes just sitting on it but most the time she just wants to take the cup part out. When she sits on it she claps her hands stands up and pees all over the floor. I am just afraid I'm rushing her. Any tips? Advice?

It is alright if all she wants to do is play with the potty chair. She must learn to internally recognize the "urge" to "go". Does she let you know that a diaper is wet???? Does she make it clear she wants to be dry in a fresh diaper?? All children eventually "train". Patience, and attention to your daughters "signals" will be the best way to go. There is no perfect age for training. Just relax, and enjoy your daughter at 19 months

When she joins you in the bathroom, talk to her about what you are doing. Explain that soon she can go the big girl way too. The idea that big girls and boys use the toilet or potty chair will sink in. 19 months may be a little early but getting her comfortable sitting on it without diapers is a good start. To get her to sit a little longer encourage her to look at a favorite book. Like a lot of adults do in the bathroom anyway.

You are not rushing. Mine was 17 months when she started playing with her chair. She would stand up before going, so she wouldn't get the chair dirty. To combat this, I gently put my hand on her every time she started to stand up and said "no, you need to potty on the potty chair." She quickly got the idea, though it took a few times. Good luck.

Potty chair IS a toy. They don't have potty chair in preschool or kindergarten. Besides it doesn't sound like she is ready to potty train anyway. Get rid of the chair and when she is ready put her on the toilet.

I personally think that this is too young, I have a 19 month old and she is no where near ready for potty training, although there is a bin that she likes to sit on and say 'wee wee, wee wee', (whilst fully dressed and with her nappy on)...it's nice to see her taking an interest, but it's too early for her, because she doesn't understand what is going on.

Just wait a few months if you think it's necessary.

we tryed that and only got her to love it and not want to go potty in it! so i gave up and we decide not to do that and go for the big potty so she wouldn't think it was a toy.

There is nothing wrong with her playing wiht it. She is just trying to figure things out. Don;t push it, take your time.
