The second part to this question is: is it crazy to think that mankind will "outgrow" religion?

Actually, all societies, have some form of belief in a god, or things unseen, of a spiritual nature. My thoughts on the second question, no, man will never outgrow religion. You DO see many men just rejecting it all though, and trying to be at peace with themselves in their own minds. Doesn't seem to work so well though, long term. They have those nagging doubts, that there is more to life than this living day to day, then dying.....They KNOW.....

Yes, God killed everyone on earth in the flood. only Noah and his family lived. God destroyed Sodom and Gomorah with fire. God has reserved the earth for destruction by fire. 2 Peter 3:10
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night ; in the which the heavens shall pass away with great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat . the earth also and teh works that are therein shall be burned up.
