Charles Darwin is/was not a god. He was better. He was intelligent. Atheism is not a religion and should not be capitalized except at the start of a sentence. There really is no such thing as an atheism. It is just a position of not believing in God(s).
If there are scientists earning money they are doing it through research or publishing works of research. They are not ending up in prison like Kent Hovind, Jimmy Bakker, Or getting busted for scandals like Ted Haggard. Who was Ralph Reed? Was he the one that got busted with Jack Abramoff for bribing republican senators? Stalling a Casino that was going to compete with one he had an interest in.
It takes a LOT of faith to trust a Christian preacher man!

It takes so much less faith to believe we came from a clump of dirt and some ribs in six days? Or any of the other ridiculous fairy tales that Fundies are told.
You're not making any sense, man. Atheism is absence of religion.
Scientists are thankfully not being burned by Religious Fundies anymore and are continually making our lives easier as we discover more about our world (Ever take an antibiotic? Use a computer? Enjoy Electricity? Lay off the scientists!)

No, it is the absence of religion and Darwin is the God of nothing. His theories make no sense. Do you realise that according to his own theories evolution has not stopped and if it has not stopped can you imagine what we beautiful looking humans are slowly slowly progressing towards becoming? does that make sense to you being a literate and educated man of today? Darwin NEVER said his theory was proved especially because he could not expalin where the first men (prehistoric, just after the dynosaurs) came from, how were the first cells laid on earth. So, there is no use going crazy over trying to prove him right now. It is stupid to do so.

~~~sfumato,,,,Atheism is NOT a religion by ANY definition. Darwin was obviously a human being,,, and we atheists do not have 'faith', especially in the religious context.. You are way off the mark in your assertions which reveal your complete ignorance of the subject. Get an educated viewpoint so that you may debate intelligently. FYI: It is the rare "scientist" that ever makes "a lot of money" as they are usually dedicated to their research and not material gain.
No, atheism is not a religion.
And atheists run the gamut in their beliefs about anything other than the non-existence of "God" or gods. Their only commonality is non-belief. That would make atheism NOT a belief system..
Don't try this nonsense.
Yeah, I know it would be convenient for y'all to get atheism declared a religion so that you could attempt to suppress scientific findings that go against your religious doctrine (as being "religious" and therefore inappropriate to teach in public schools) but it isn't going to wash. For one thing, there are LOTS of religious people like myself who will fight any such attempts.
atheism is not a religion...atheism is the BELIEF that there is no god and there is no right religion. Darwin believed creationism which everything was created through out time and evolution..he think we evolved from primal animals like monkeys...he is not the god of atheists because they don't have a god...and he didn't believe in atheism anyway.
No, atleast I've never heard of it being a religion. Darwin isn't a god, it's just that he's the one who got the idea in the first place. Also, at this point in time it doesn't take alot of faith because there is a lot of scientific evidence to prove the theory of evolution.
Atheism ONLY means the lack of belief in a god or gods. More than that is up to each individual!
I am an atheist. I believe in Evolution. To have faith is to believe in something without evidence. Evolution has MOUNTAINS of evidence - it is a FACT. It is not faith to believe in Evolution.
Atheism was not, is not and will NEVER be a religion.
Claim CA610:
Evolution is a religion because it encompasses views of values and ultimate meanings.
Response:
1. Evolution merely describes part of nature. The fact that that part of nature is important to many people does not make evolution a religion. Consider some attributes of religion and how evolution compares:
* Religions explain ultimate reality. Evolution stops with the development of life (it does not even include the origins of life).
* Religions describe the place and role of humans within ultimate reality. Evolution describes only our biological background relative to present and recent human environments.
* Religions almost always include reverence for and/or belief in a supernatural power or powers. Evolution does not.
* Religions have a social structure built around their beliefs. Although science as a whole has a social structure, no such structure is particular to evolutionary biologists, and one does not have to participate in that structure to be a scientist.
* Religions impose moral prescriptions on their members. Evolution does not. Evolution has been used (and misused) as a basis for morals and values by some people, such as Thomas Henry Huxley, Herbert Spencer, and E. O. Wilson (Ruse 2000), but their view, although based on evolution, is not the science of evolution; it goes beyond that.
* Religions include rituals and sacraments. With the possible exception of college graduation ceremonies, there is nothing comparable in evolutionary studies.
* Religious ideas are highly static; they change primarily by splitting off new religions. Ideas in evolutionary biology change rapidly as new evidence is found.
2. How can a religion not have any adherents? When asked their religion, many, perhaps most, people who believe in evolution will call themselves members of mainstream religions, such as Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism. None identify their religion as evolution. If evolution is a religion, it is the only religion that is rejected by all its members.
3. Evolution may be considered a religion under the metaphorical definition of something pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion. This, however, could also apply to stamp collecting, watering plants, or practically any other activity. Calling evolution a religion makes religion effectively meaningless.
4. Evolutionary theory has been used as a basis for studying and speculating about the biological basis for morals and religious attitudes (Sober and Wilson 1998). Studying religion, though, does not make the study a religion. Using evolution to study the origins of religious attitudes does not make evolution a religion any more than using archaeology to study the origins of biblical texts makes archaeology a religion.
5. Evolution as religion has been rejected by the courts:
Assuming for the purposes of argument, however, that evolution is a religion or religious tenet, the remedy is to stop the teaching of evolution, not establish another religion in opposition to it. Yet it is clearly established in the case law, and perhaps also in common sense, that evolution is not a religion and that teaching evolution does not violate the Establishment Clause.
