What does the fact that something is about Jesus have to do with the rating? Mary and Joseph were running away from a king who was killing every male child who was under the age of two! And let's not talk about what a violent and brutal practice crucifixion is.
Anyways, when in doubt, check the Motion Pictures Associate of America (MPAA) website. Here is what they had to say about the Nativity story.

I know why. Because religion is a heavy issue, and it makes sense to warn people that there are themes that may be suited for parental guidance. If religion and the story of Jesus doesn't inspire questions in children, and warrant the presence of a parent, then what does?
I think parents should be aware of ANY movie that will possibly confuse or inspire questions in their children so that they might be prepared to answer those questions. Especially a human interpretation of a religious story-any parent who instills a particular religion in their child should be prepared to answer questions about the MEDIA'S portrayal of events.
Just because it says "Jesus" on the label does not mean it's all smiling wisemen and goats.

If they were able to make a movie out of the entire Bible, it would get AT LEAST an "R" rating. It's the most violent book ever written.

Because there was a lot of violence surrounding Jesus's life! Do you really believe He just walked around and people gave Him flowers? Why do you think they went to Bethlehem? Just took a really long walk?

because people think that it is SOOO bad that Jesus was born of a young woman who wasnt married. they just 4got to leave out the part that SHE WAS A VIRGIN!!
