I've had a throbbing headache for several days now, which I suspect may be due to a Sinus inflamation, or nasal congestion of some sort.

Any suggestions on how to treat it, preferably herbal or home remedies? Thanks.

Breathing steam is a really good option, as is a hot compress on your forehead. I also find that having someone massage my head, right around the point where your eyebrows run into your nose (up under your eyebrows), putting steady pressure there can really help temporarily. Drink lots of fluids.

But, if you actually have a sinus infection the best way to get healthy in a timely fashion is to take a decongestant and see your doctor about an antibiotic. The first things I listed will help with the symptoms, but medicine will deal with the cause.

Alternate hot and cold compresses: Place a hot compress across your sinuses for three minutes, and then a cold compress for 30 seconds. Repeat this procedure three times per treatment, two to six times a day.

Nasal irrigation: Some believe that when nasal irrigation or rinse is performed, mucus, allergy creating particles and irritants such as pollens, dust particles, pollutants and bacteria are washed away, reducing the inflammation of the mucous membrane. Normal mucosa will fight infections and allergies better and will reduce the symptoms. Nasal irrigation helps shrink the sinus membranes and thus increases drainage. There are several over-the-counter nasal rinse products available.

Over-the-counter medications: Some over-the-counter (OTC) drugs are highly effective in reducing sinus headache pain. The primary ingredient in most OTC pain relievers is aspirin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, naproxen, or a combination of them. The best way to choose a pain reliever is by determining which of these ingredients works best for you.

Decongestants: Sinus pressure headaches caused by allergies are usually treated with decongestants and antihistamines. In difficult cases, nasal steroid sprays may be recommended.

I am an expert in this area - used to have sinus infections every other month. A few things work - a NeilMed sinus rinse kit is great - cleans out all the bacteria/gunk in the sinuses. For inflammation I found that clove oil, thyme oil and cinnamon oil (use 3 drops of each in water and boil and breathe it in) work.
Thyme is great for headaches - so is peppermint oil. Also try a hot compress on your face.

Get a bowl of hot water (do not burn skin) and bowl of icewater
Put 2 washcloths in each bowl. Have a dry hand towel beside you. Ring out hot rag first and put over cheeks, eyes and above eyes...put dry hand towel over this to keep heat in. Switch out hot rags if it gets too cool....keep hot on 3 minutes total. Then switch to cold rag for 30 seconds. Repeat this 3 times total...hot/cold...hot/cold...hot/cold. End on cold for 30 seconds. You can do this several times a day. It helps your the blood to heal your sinus areas. Also, a hot foot bath will pull the congestion down to your feet and help you breath better...just get up slow in case you get dizzy. Very cheap...works very well!

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

Boil water and put it in a pan. Then cover your head with a towel and breath in the steam several times a day.

You can add eucalyptus or other herbs if you'd like.
