In the US the National Cancer Institute provides the following information about cancer research . . which is funded by the US Congress. In the year 2005 the budget was $4.83 billion. The estimate for 2006 was $4.79 billion. Congress is expected to decrease spending in 2007 to $4.75 billion.

NCI provides the following charts by type and the yearly budget:
Breast: 2005=$560.1 million
Breast: 2006=$557.3 million
Breast: 2007=$551.1 million

Colorectal: 2005=$253.1 million
Colorectal: 2006=$251.9 million
Colorectal: 2007=$249.1 million

Lung: 2005=$266.1 million
Lung: 2006=$264.8 million
Lung: 2007=$261.9 million

Prostate: 2005=$309.0 million
Prostate: 2006=$309.0 million
Prostate: 2007=$305.6
