I need all the advice I can get. I own a 5 year old female Border Collie named Shadow, and a 1 year old female Australian Shepherd named Dakota. I have just adopted an 8 week old kitten I named Sadie. Dakota seems to be adjusting quite well, as is Sadie to her. However, Shadow (who is THE most neurotic dog EVER) cannot be controlled. She whines and pokes Sadie (I'm assuming her hearding instinct?) and cannot even eat when she's out and about. It's only been 2 days and I'm afraid she will do what she has done with just about every other cat we've had, and just never get over it. Has anyone encountered this before, with such a stubborn (and by that I mean too-smart-for-her-own-good) breed of dog?? Maybe a website I can consult?? Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!

You may not be able to introduce them at all, depends on the dogs prior experience with cats, I hav a dog that used to be fine with cats but was teased & tormented by them when she stayed out at my parents house on a cable for a few days, to this day she'll kill a cat if she gets the chance.

hm. i have a boxer puppy and a golden retriever and we've had cats with them and a new kitten and they did that too with the poking and everything. I guess just trying to figre out what this new animal is. Only thing I can think of that's worked is to get them together in a room and just try and get them used to each other.

you can try checking around on the petsmart website or maybe Pedigree might have something.

Just give her some time! You must understand she is 5years old, and dogs that age need time to get used to new things, plus it is hard for her too, just think how would you do if you had a 5years old child, and from nowhere you bring another baby child, how you think YOUR child will react?:)

give them time, or just stick the cat and dog in a room together, or put the kitty next to the dog and make them play and they will eventually grow to like eachother

we brought home a kitten after we had a yorkie we just let them discover each other and they still pick at each other once in awhile but then some days they are cuddled up together it is so cute..
