If Doctor tells you that you have elevated PH levels in your urine after a bladder infection, what does that mean?

elevated PH levels mean that your urine is BASIC (ph 7 and above)... we need the natural acidity of the urine to protect our urinary tract from infection, so this could lead to a worsening of the infection. YOu need to take antibiotics asap to prevent the worsening of infection.

Is this a homework question, or is this about someone's actual condition? If the latter, ALWAYS follow up with your doctor!

Elevated pH means less acidic = more basic.

The normal pH range is 4.5 to 8, but urine is commonly acidic (i.e 5.5-6.5) due to metabolic activity. So, a slightly elevated pH may be normal.

However, alkaline urine (high pH) is seen with infection with urease-splitting organisms. Alkaline urine may be associated with the formation of stag-horn kidney stones.

If the bladder infection has been treated, it may mean that the treatment was inadequate, and that the bacteria are still present.

Another possibility is that the kidneys were injured by nephrotoxic effects of the antibiotics used to treat the infection. This may cause an acute tubular necrosis, which in turn may cause a renal tubular defect in which the kidneys are unable to acidify the urine. This is called renal tubular acidosis RTA, even though the urine may be basic.

The most likely explanation is probably the presence of urease-splitting organisms, bacteria in the urine that break down urea into ammonia, which is basic.

That could be a sign of possible kidney infection or swelling. The kidneys are responsible for refiltering the electrolytes back into the blood stream. Of course with a kidney infection you would be noticing some pain associated with such.

With the normal case which shows the acidity which it omits differently, the urine which shows an alkalinity. The vast quantity exhaust of taking medicine and the gastric fluid of vast quantity intake and the alkalinity medicine of the vegetability foodstuffs and germ characteristic disjointing and so on it comes out in case. The phosphoric acid sal was detected plentifully and the mountain sal which burns and the processed marine products sal, the organic ingredient and so on was detected all. ≒ alkali urine.

It's probably not a big deal. Cranberry juice is a good natural treatment for it, I'm told. Of course, your doctor is a better person to ask about this.
