Is he peeing or spraying? There actually is a difference in male cats. Peeing is just using the bathroom and it's not a spray but a stream. If he's spraying, however, it's actually a spray with a very strong smell to mark his territory. Make sure the old litter box area is very clean, wash it with bleach if necessary to kill any odor that he can smell but you can't. Once he's neutered, he won't spray any more, but that smell is very hard to get rid of. Good luck!

This happened to me! My cat pees on the couch when he's upset so I put the litter box on that cushion... he pooped in it but peed in the corner where the litter box used to be!

Make sure he knows where the new litterbox is. Sometimes they need to be introduced to it several times before it sticks.

Make sure the new litter box is clean. They won't go in a full box.

Clean the undesired area with an enzyme cleaner such as Nature's Miracle to remove the scent, and then put something unpleasant down on the floor where he goes, such as sandpaper, tinfoil, plastic grocery bags, double sided tape, or the cat's food dish. Cats are reluctant to potty where their food is! They are also repelled by citrus (orange) scent or eucalyptus.

Good luck!

Definitely put another litterbox where he is going. I don't know how old he is and it may think that going where he was used to is OK and he either can't or doesn't want to go upstairs for his box.

Try putting another box where the old one used to be. Then gradually move it toward the new one, if you can. Or you could try closing him in the room that is now serving as the box's new locale.

If that doesn't work, keep the second box.

Good luck!

cats are strange like this!! the easy answer is to put it back. But before you do cheek a few things first, is the new location privet and dark like us they like this, did you change to a differnt kind of litter if so go back to the old kind and is the new spot clean they like us will not go there if it is stinky and dirty. Make shore you use his old box it has his sent on it.

Try putting another one in the same spot and keep one upstairs also. Maybe it is confused after going in one spot then moving it. I have two in my house one up and one down. Good luck with your kitty.

Pick your cat up and carry him to the new box, do this a few times during the day, for about a day. Whenever you move the box, even if hes fixed, pick him up and take him to it.
