Car starts fine in the morning, after about 2 to 3 minutes car runs very bad, check engine light comes on. It never stalls just sputters, spits like it running on 3 cylinders. After about 4 to 5 minutes of running bad the car starts running perfect. Check engine light stays on, sometimes it goes off during the day. Next morning same thing all over again. Took car to Autozone got a P1391 code (camshaft position sensor) replaced it twice still same problem. Anybody got any ideals? thanks inadvance.

I had to replace the engine in my 2000 intrepid twice. The first time it cost my $2700 with only 36000 miles on the engine. The second time was free with only 863 miles on the engine. This engine is a ticking time bomb, I strongly suggest getting rid of the car. When I was told about this junk engine I attempted to sell it on eBay, I set my reserve around $3000 but never got a bid over 2 grand. Apparently everyone else found out before me, there were many other design flaws as well such as the battery being stuffed into the passenger side wheel well. The tires threw water all over the battery until the cables rotted to nothing. That only cost around $600 to fix but luckily the car burned in the garage before the completed the work and the insurance paid off the loan and then some. So I suggest selling it or pray that it is destroyed in a insurance covered accident.

According to my info P1391 reads "sometimes I can't see the camshaft or crankshaft sensor signal" That would indicate an antermittent problem. A computer scan with a graph could find the problem or you can replace the crank sensor and hope for a solution.

First problem is you got a dodge with the 2.7 engine one of the worst engines dodge makes. My brother is a dodge auto mechanic the 2.7's most common problems..cranckshafts and timming belts, amoung more problems to come. This isn't something you're going to be able to soulve at autozone my best guess is you're going to have to either tare the engine down cause you'd definatly know if it was the timming belt or its probably a sensor someplace else take it to a mechanic not autozone.

Take it to a dealer. Sometimes those error codes are misleading. An error may not be picked up until a later sensor. The dealership will now what to check based upon the error code base upon past experience.
