To escape reality! ! !

2006-12-20 11:56:30 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Everybody needs an outlet to escape. Teens are no different because they have changing hormones, bodies, social changes, and academic pressures. It's hard to fit in sometimes and drugs become appealing. They can give the user a new twist on reality, a new awareness of the world, or just take the edge off. None of these experiences seem bad to a teen who has the need to fit in. The idea it's okay to experiment leads many teens to want these cool highs. The problem is the drug wears off, now the teen has to use more to keep the affect going. The next step is that the amount of drugs being used is no longer sustaining the desired effect, so more dope is needed. This is how drug addiction works and teens being impulsive in nature will often fall into the trap. The people who abuse drugs long enough will get to the point where less drugs will be very potent for them and it is at this point they need the drugs to function. After this step usually comes death, but not necessarily from overdose. A junkie always believes he or she will be able to quit after their next fix, however sometimes it will be their last. Drugs can do lots of things because they alter the mind and body, but they are not cool. Teens who don't realize this and are irresponsible enough to be gluttonous with their usage are doomed. Even the casual user is doomed, if he or she keeps using because the body will demand these artificial substances. So stay away.

Because they make them feel good! Drugs would not have lasted for as many centuries if they didn't make people feel or experience a good time. For many, it's the forbidden fruit syndrome. The more society says to stay away, the more some people are intrigued by it's use. Then once many try it, they see that it is a pleasureable experience, and they want to epxperience it again. They don't realize that drugs with the "good feelings" have other problems that come along for the ride. If one could always have the drug in sufficient quantity to keep the highs going, it would be utopia. But, it costs to buy a high, and the money will run out except for the folks with high income. Sadly, the urge to get high is the same for poor and rich alike, and the folks without the money still have the urge. Honestly, not all drugs will destroy - only those that create a strong desire to continue using it.....
The highs are the same, but the life experieces will change....lack of money..change of friends (those that do as you do) change in individual behavior...shift in priorities, lack of incentive...it all goes back to the drugs.........look at the entire spectrum of drug use....do it before, as a teenager, you decide to "experiment." By now, one has to be ignorant not to see what the casual street drugs create on the periferal edge.

May God bless

Has anyone ever seen a teenager become successful in spite of their drug use? Honestly, it keeps one down before they even enter the world of competition. Be true to one's self and give yourself a chance before you alter your life---even before it really starts!

I'm a teenager, and I do drugs. I've tried alot of the harder ones. I first started because I couldn't sleep, and when i came down, I'd be exhausted and the would be able to sleep. Then I started to do them when I fetl depressed, suicidal, or to avoid self injury (better to spend five bucks on some pills than on double edged razors). Now, I do it because it works. It makes me feel better emotionally, and it gives me energy. Besides, knowing that the world is a bit softer, it helps a helluva lot.

Teenagers abuse drugs for the same reason adults abuse them. Lack of something to do, PEER PRESSURE is one of the MAIN reasons, watching it on tv ,stress ,lack of self confidence ,bad company ,experimenting with the lack of knowlage ,hearing of all the "cool" stories about using them but none of the bad stories,
and another MAIN reason.....watching a close family member of relative doing it.
Hope this answered ure question accurately.
MERRY CHRISTMAS xxxxx

Everyone on here I guarantee will say to fit in, peer pressure, to see what its like and things like that. For many people that may be true there are plenty of other reasons. For me it was because they helped me with all my problems. That may sound bad but its the truth. Just don't do it. Yes its an experience but kids talk too much about the experience...the "experience" isn't as good as its cut out to be.

This is a critical time in thier lives of where they are learning to become more independent from their parents. The experimentation and feeling of taking a risk is related to this independence. Also, as others have said, peer pressure certainly does play into this as they are trying to define themselves and most do so with their freinds

some do it as a sort of escapism, through fact brings out a needed character trait which in any different case lays dormant at the same time with self belief or loss of inhibitions. some do it to numb the discomfort of a depressing existence. Others do it through fact it quite is what their pals do. i think of it quite is on the upward push for countless motives - the reality that drugs are greater broadly available than ever, the reality that infants sense greater and greater disenchanted with what mainstream society has to grant them and due to the mother and father who fail to charm to close that it quite is their responsibilty nurture their offspring and modern them with postive alternatives.

i abused drugs because i was depressed and suicidal and i wanted something to depend on. I did take sleeping pills at school once, but that was to make my day more interesting

Because they're ugly and nobody wants them. No just kidding. Most kids do it to be cool a.k.a. peer pressure. Others to get away from their current situation. Those are the only two answers I can think of.

sometimes peer pressure and sometimes to deal with stress and whatever needs to be dealt with. It really is not the way to deal with your problems and I'm not saying they should or anything... but that's why a lot of people do it. Also to look cool (they think it looks cool anyway)
