Towel the bird and cover its vision Have a friend hold the bird while you cut.Have cornmeal or baking soda ready to dip the toe should bleeding occur.Purchase a cement perch so that the nails will stay short to avoid this task in the future. Have a tweet Christmas.

this takes lots of patience and trust.i personnaly would not recomend clipping her nails.i would get an expert that knows how to do this.but if you feel comfortable about it,i would only clip like half an inch.but b4 you do,you have to let her trust you.play with her more and get to know her better.than if a few weeks she may be calm.she isnt calm right now because you and her are not that close.i still would seek professional help with the clippings.
i wish you the best of luck,
The Morrigan

If you have never done it, don't try to do it, as blood birds' nails are full of blood vessel and if you cut one too deep your bird will bleed plus it will hurt it, too. When my green cheek needs a pedicure I take him to the local pet shop where the bird caretaker does it for only $5.

Hold her firmly with two hands with her back in your palms. Have someone else carefully clip her toenails.

More than likely her toenails do not need to be clipped!!! DO NOT DO THIS YOURSELF!!!! You can seriously injure your friend, or even cause her DEATH!!! Go to your avian vet, and let them decide if she needs it or not!!! Do not follow the advice about doing it while she is asleep!!! PLEASE LISTEN, BECAUSE YOU WILL DESTROY HER FAITH AND TRUST IN YOU****####--- This can only be done by someone she trusts, and with her co-operation, or YOU will destroy her tame-ness, handleability, and trust. PLEASE TAKE HER TO A GOOD VET--PLEASE---HEED THIS ADVICE FOR THE SAKE OF GOOD JUDGEMENT---Birdman

All the above are right. Just don't cut the blood supply off!!! If blood comes out, make sure you stop it from bleeding!! Do it in front of light to see the blood supply.^_^

you can go to your vet to get them clipped and ask if they will show you how to do it. that's how i learned to clip my cocktail's wings. i also calm them down by putting a wash cloth over their body and covering its head just wait for a few seconds for her to stop flapping her wings
