Using tick preventative medications is odd, because my dog never got fleas, but she regularly got ticks, regardless of the product I used. You also need to be careful of the type of product you use because there was a huge thing a couple of years ago where these products were causing nerve damage in the dogs causing shakes, the inability to walk or hold their bowels, brain damage and death. It was horrible! So, ask about this in choosing the product.

I used to get grossed out when I found ticks on my dog, but after a while, I got used to pulling them out and it became a welcome home ritual for her. She thought I was rubbing her and massaging her and saying I was glad to see her, which I was!, but I was also checking her body head to toe for ticks. Just pull them out. There really doesn't have to be the ritual behind it that it has been made out to be with the toothpaste and the matches and the various odd tricks. Besides, none of them ever worked for me, which is why I finally resorted to just pulling them out. Pulling the tick out doesn't hurt the dog because the tick injects a toxin which numbs the area around its bite. The only concern would be the type of ticks your dog is getting. My ticks were not a deadly tick, so it was no big deal. The deer tick that carries Lyme disease is the worst you should be aware of as well as the Rocky Mountain Spotted Tick.

If you find a tick on your dog the best way to remove it isn't by just ripping it off with tweezers.

You should part it's fur with your fingers, and pure a little olive oil on the tick. Enough to cover it well. It will suffocate the tick, causing it to let go of the dog and back away. Then you can just easily pick it up with a napkin and dispose of it.

Ripping it out often leaves the tick's head in the skin, and that's nasty. Not to mention, can welcome infection and irritation and all sorts of unwanted issues.

The oil won't hurt the dog, like some lotions or shampoos might. But if you have a doggie shampoo, you could just a glob of that too. It will work the same way.

I accidently brought my dog to my apartment and found out she had a tick. She was on medicine for ticks and fleas and wore a collar, which is odd. I just pulled the tick off her with a napkin or you can do tweezers and then immediately wash the dog. Might want to observe the dog for awhile to make sure no odd signs occur, if there is something or you really are worried you can call your vet and talk to them.

You also want to make sure you sanatize the area with a spray o wash the clothing that your dog was near to make sure everything is safe. (that's what I did). Nothing to overreact to.

You also might want to use a flea/tick collar or purchase tick/flea stuff from your vet (advantix or frontline), depending what your vet sells.

Ticks are nasty little parasites that live in cool areas of the yard, ie under trees, inside dog houses, beside the base of the house...

Get some 10% seven dust from the local feed store or tractor supply store and sprinkle it around any areas where the dog lies or digs.

You can powder your dog with it as well since seven dust is deadly to ticks.

Be sure to wash your hands after, and change clothes once the treatment has been done.

First if you can find the ticks on the dog, remove them. Boil scalding hot water and dip a rag into it. Rub the rag across the butt of the tick until it backs out then squash it. To prevent ticks from being a problem we at stokelysaints.zoomshare.com suggest taking your dog to the vet and getting Fronline Plus for fleas and ticks.

My dog had ticks & tested positive for Lyme disease.
Vet put her on antibiotics, also a systemic flea & tick killer / repellant.
Very bad year for ticks in N.East.
Vet s/ Humans can get Lyme disease( serious ) from Deerticks brought into home by pets.
See a Vet.

Yes straight to the bathtub. Once there give him a bath with flea and tick shampoo made for dogs. Wash throughly getting all ticks and fleas off. If real bad might have to use Pine Sol mixed with bath water as well.
Rinse throughly with hand held shower head. Then repeat and dry good.
When finished cover with flea and tick powder and get flea and tick collar for him as well.

If ticks and flea get on you, fill bathtub with water as hot as you can stand it. Mix in 2 cups of Clorox bleach and 1/2 cup of Pine Sol. soak making sure to soak hair good to get down to scalp. Shower off with warm water. Dry. then use body lotion all over body (because your skin is going to be bone dry of natural oils)

As long as you have checked the dog twice and made sure there are no ticks anywhere then yeah!
