Yes it's absolutely safe!
In fact, with all due respect it's probably more safe than going for a run in your own home town, because at any given time there are thousands of other people running in the park along with you, and for most of the day there are no cars allowed in the park. Not to mention there's a dedicated police force in the park and an ambulatory service, 24 hours a day.
Have fun!

Use common sense you wouldn't run or jog anywhere at night alone or in a place where no one was around. But as long as you use your head your perfectly safe in Central Park. I think the park as gotten a bad rap because of things that happened a long time ago, but no one ever remembers the good things I've seen people rollerblading and jogging and riding their bikes in Central Park at all days and times and nothing happens. The most populated part of the park is anything 72nd st. and below that's generally where most of the people are so if you stay in that area you should be fine. Don't let all the cynics and people who have never even been to NY scare you about the city. If you read the latest New York Magazine you will see that New York has reported the lowest incidence of crime since 1970. I would feel safer there then anywhere else. Enjoy your run!!!!!

I know that New York has a bad rap but there really isn't any real danger. I lived in N.Y. all my life and I jogged and ran many times in Central Park. There really is no danger, I started running when I was 17 until I was 19, yeah there are horror stories about Central Park, but there are horror stories about most places you go.

I run throughout NYC, and function in no way had any hardship. i does not draw close out in substantial Park at evening nonetheless. There quite isn't any reason to -- no longer something occurring except there's a stay overall performance or something like that. circumstances sq. is risk-free at evening now. And, there's no hardship on the subways. basically like everywhere, nonetheless, you ought to word, and that i does not basically wander away on my own. i might say that approximately any city -- no longer in basic terms NYC.

In a word NO.
I've been out with the NYPD in the Park. They were dressed up as women, in an attempt to catch muggers.
But in spite of their long Wigs, and Bras filled out with Oranges, they didn't fool anybody......It was a hoot actually.

TONS of poeple run in the morning!!! and dog walkers too!
its only at night, when it gets rough. but still, don't listen to all those NY haters, half of them exagerate the ONE case that they heard of someone getting injured....its really not half as bad as everyone thinks it is.

It is a wonderful place to run during daylight. I wouldn't go to the non crowded parts after dark.

yes, just stick to the paths & roads, don't go into the 'wild' or you may get mugged by the squirrels.
