I have several VHS movies mostly used but a few that are new. I am looking to get rid of them but for a profit.

I don't know if you will be able to make a profit on the current market with DVDs outselling the VHS at least 4-to-1, but you might try selling them on auction with the reserve set at a price you can live with (i.e. eBay, Amazon, or Yahoo). Or you can try to sell them on Craigslist. You'll get more if you sell them seperately -just a tip.

Try selling them on Amazon or Ebay (I'm one of the people who refuse to pay 19.99 for a DVD when VHS is sooooooo much cheaper). Or have a yard sale and get rid of them there.

What you'll want to do is look into Ebay or one of the less expensive online auction sites. The good thing about Ebay is you can use their free listing software, called Turbo Lister, and simply enter the ISBN (or a similar type of) number found on each VHS tape and it will automatically create a listing with the name and description of your tape for you, complete with picture, and all the details of the product/vHS tape such as length of the movie, year it came out, who stars in it, and much much more. It ends up looking very professional and accurrate.

The problem is how much can you get for each one? Take a sampling of your tapes, the ones you will sell, and do a search for them on ebay. Search "Clint Eastwood Unforgiven," for example and all the auctions will show up. Then, look to your left on the screen and click on "completed auctions" and then a new screen will come up showing you all the completed auctions, and what they sold for in green numbers. Anything in red means it didn't sell at all. So much information for someone looking to sell the type of things you are!

Now, you have to figure out how much it will cost to ship each one, because that price needs to be included in your auction and you have to know that ebay buyers won't want to pay a penny extra for shipping. You'll need at least a padded envelope for each tape sold and those cost about a buck apiece. Then you need to accurately find the weight to ship the tape....

Starting to sound like less of a good idea yet? It's not a good idea in fact it's very difficult to make money this way, I know, I tried.

I ended up selling all my boyfriend's Clint Eastwood tapes in large batches. I sold the westerns and the action/dirty harry's in two separate auctions and they sold like crazy, lots of bids. I could use Priority Mail, which Ebay buyers LOVE, and after sorting them all out I calculated the shipping. They need to be packed securely, or you will have MAJOR problems if they get damaged in the mail...

So, you might want to divide all your VHS tapes into categories and try selling them in large collections. Just an idea in case selling them individually doesn't look very promising.

Go to Ebay and see what other people are charging for similar content. You wont sell much if you are way above the average prices.

EBay but you have a hard time getting more then a couple of dollars no mater how you sell it.
Try your local pawn shop.
