We have 4 kids: 10, 7, 4 and 3. The 10 and 7 year olds have specific chores like keeping their rooms clean, dusting, vacuuming, etc... How can I let the 3 and 4 year olds join in? They love to help. I sometimes let them move clothes from washer to dryer or carry towels up to the bathroom. Any other ideas?

My son is 27 months and his chores are to help make the beds and dust the house with a feather duster. Anything you can do to let them feel apart of the family and house is great. For a 3 and 4 year old I would probably suggest putting their clothes away, keeping their room clean, helping prepare the family meal (my son loves that one), raking the lawn, etc

Give them both a bag and tell them to pick up all the trash they see. Make it into a contest or a game but let them both win. My kids love this. Or ahve them hold the bag open for you this way they are not touching the trash but still helping. And let them help put away the groceries. Like put the hotdogs in the fridge little things like that.

they can help you put the dirty clothes in the washer. my 2 yr old loves to do this we call it laundry basketball. She also loves to help find the matches to socks when I get them out of the dryer. And when it comes time to wash the kitchen floor, im still an old fashion wash the floor on your hands and knees kinda girl, I give her a little bucket of water and a cloth and let her go to town helping wash the floor. She also helps put her clothes away in her dresser. I also bought her a play vaccum that really picks things up its a lil dirt devil and she vaccums right beside me.

I have a three year old and I let her dust with me. She loves it and when I sweep the floor I let her hold the dust pan and dump it in the trash can. I fold towels and washcloths and let her help me put them away. I also have her pick her toys up and put them where they belong. She loves doing anything that I am doing.

At that age, my daughter was telling me when the bunny needed food or water, clearing her own plate and putting it in the sink, wiping down the tables after a meal, dusting with one of those fluffy duster thingees, brushing her hair in the morning, telling me when the garbage was full and then getting a new bag from the pantry, etc.

My four year old son loves to help around the house. My favorite chore I give him is to vacuum the edges (where the carpet meets the walls) with the extension. I just set it up for him and he drags the vacuum around behind him. Its great because he feels helpful and I HATE doing the edges!

I also have a 3 y/o and he has to pick up his toys an hour before bedtime, take his dirty clothes to the laundry room and take his plate to the sink after dinner.

Those are good ones, you can also let them wipe down the lower cabinets....clean baseboards, switch plates etc. They can see the dirt and dust being removed, mine like that.

If you have different color socks, have them pair socks. You can also show them how to sort their clothes. I tell them anything you wear under your clothes goes in one backet, anything you wear that others can see goes in another (i have to do a bit more sorting, but it is a start)
