I don't know what it is, but I am trying to build muscle, and this is what I have seen that helps. What exactly is it anyway?

Whey protein is the name for a variety of globular proteins that can be isolated from whey. Whey is a by-product of cheese manufactured from cow's milk. It has the highest biological value of any known protein. Good stuff if you are trying to gain muscle mass, when used in conjunction with a good weight lifting routine, of course.

I would imagine just the protein left over from cheese making.
I.E. dairy protein that doesn't make it into the cheese but
is left over in the whey. Not sure what amino acids would be
in it, but it is probably a pretty complete protein.

Do a search on amino acids. These are the building blocks
of proteins. Some amino acids your body can make. Others
you have to eat. These are the essential amino acids. To have a "complete" protein. It must contain all of the essential
amino acids. Hence, beans and rice complement each other
to give you all you need without eating meat. Whey protein
is probaby complete (but I don't know for sure), and it has the
advantage that it contains little carbohydrate or fat. Make sure
you get enough water with your protein rich diet.

Whey "solids" are used as an ingredient in lots of "dairy flavored" snack foods (ranch dip chips and such), but just
add that dairy flavor and a little protein nutrition at the level
added. Look at the labels.

ive tried it, and to be honest, i dont think it made much difference. spend your money on real food instead--youre body can use the protein from real food far better than from any supplement. heres what i used to eat about 2 hours before workout: 1 can tuna (drained) 1 hard boiled egg, 1/2 cup dry curd cottage cheese, 3 tablespoons ranch dressing. chop the egg up and mix every thing together well. theres about 70grams of protein in this and its all natural and low fat and very readily absorbed by your body. pluse it only costs about 1.50 for the ingredients.eat this in addition to your main meals not as a replacement.

It is a byproduct of milk. Actually something that is thrown away as not digestable. Clever companies now sell it in powder and tell you it is GREAT. Same as Sunny D. Ground up orange skins.

If Little Miss Muffet were around now she'd tell you that it's the liquidy part of cottage cheese.
