if i use cocoa instead of unsweetened cocoa, will it make a difference?

If you're baking and the recipe calls for unsweetened cocoa, don't substitute. Even if you reduce the sugar, it won't be cocoa-y enough and potentially won't bake properly. Believe it or not, there is not very much cocoa in ready-to-drink cocoa.

pure cocoa is just that
Check the ingredients usually they will say if sugar is added.
The popular ratio to add sugar is one to one.
example: one cup cocoa add one cup sugar.
If your recipe calls for an equal amount of sugar then you add regular cocoa or unsweetened ( same thing)
There is however different quality's of cocoa I like to use fryers Cocoa for baking.

Are you talking about cocoa mix that you add to milk or hot water?

Otherwise cocoa and unsweetened cocoa are the same thing.
