One day husband, my 19 month old son, and I went to the lake with my in-law's and some of their friends. I saw the mother give her 13 month old an uncooked hot dog. I was shocked and made a comment to my husband. He said "You have never ate a cold hot dog?" I told him no and he went and told his whole family that I thought you could not eat a hotdog cold. He explained to me that the hotdog is already cooked and you just heat it up. I felt like a fool, but I still will not give my son a hotdog cold just because I think it is gross. So, yes you can give it to him cold if he likes it that way.

Actually... you can't eat an un-cooked hot dog. Heck you can't even buy one from the market. All hot dogs are pre-cooked before they ever leave the manufacturer. What you had for lunch was just a cold hot dog, which is perfectly safe. Just like having a cold piece of fried chicken at a picnic or a cold slice of left over pizza. And now I must go eat some dogs.

As long as they say precooked on the package they are safe, pork or not, I think it's actually hard to find them raw. But if you go somewhere else to eat and are not sure keep a can of vienna sausage with you, not the healthiest alternative but better than not knowing. Just make sure when you buy them you look at the package and it's just like eating bologna or lunchmeat.
summer and schnappa easy! she obviously knows there a problem giving her child undercooked or raw meat, but hotdogs are precooked 99% of the time.

I know pregnant women are not supposed to eat hot dogs unless they are cooked to they are really hot or soft cheeses because of a bacteria called Listeria. So i would think a young child would be at risk too.

Any meat needs to be cooked. Especially for a toddlers sensitive stomach. Don't give him an option, cooked or not at all. Meat harbors dangerous bacteria which could kill a child. Bacteria can enter the meat between the time it is pre cooked and when your child gets it. I wouldn't take the risk.

They're fully cooked in the package, just better off a grill (to my taste anyway). It's perfectly fine for him to each them cold. Although, be careful because they have LOTS of sodium. Not the best snack/meal. But I know how kids love hot dogs.

I would not recommend you to feed your child uncooked food because you dont know what type of bacteria could come with it or what kind of disease your child could end up with. If he does not like them when they are cooked just dont give it to him. you would rather him eat something that is cooked and know he will be ok than to eat something that is uncooked and could make him or her really sick right???
