to speed up my computer's booting process, i have unchecked some programmes from the system configuration. it works for the first restart after the change, then it doesn't work anymore.

You should go to control panel, internet options and clear out all your web browsing history, this slows down your omcputer and also delte all your cookies This has helped me, and to chek if there are any viruses and get them cleaned for free try this website ( www.freewarefiles.net ) and clik on the computer cleaning tools :) i hope this has help you, it has helped me

when you rebooted after changing the settings did a wee box appear on screen saying you had changed setting or something to that effect, in this box you must tick dont show this again or run the utility,otherwise it will go back to the original settings

Not sure what you mean by the "system configuration". If you mean MSCONFIG, from the command prompt, then not sure why it is not working for more than one reboot.
