When I work directly with young people I'm generally pretty optimistic about the future. There are a lot of good young people out there. The world keeps getting harder to deal with, but I think they'll be up to the challenge, if we don't screw it up too badly first.

Thanks for this excellent question.

Well im a child not really a parent but i think my generation is going to have a very tough time. Most of the kids i know really have no knowledge of the world around them and look up to pop stars and famous people. Rather then looking up to great minds such as Davinci or Einstien. Intellect is less important then style. And other countries beat are math and reading comprehension scores with ease. But i still have a little confidence because there are still some great minds in are generation hopefully i can be one of them.

oh yes!i think they are ready to be in charged someday..and they will make great leaders..and they are doing it now!children these days are not naive..they react, they think, they raise their concerns-with all the tasks they are assigned to do as little ones-perhaps its more of a training for them and setting a good example is another thing-that's it making them realise that every one has the capacity to respond to his given responsibility-i spell it like RESPONSE-ABILITY..every one is capable but not all are willing. So parents do have the influence as to how they are going to motivate their children to be better ones.

From April of 1997:

oh....yeah, my answer: NO >However, alot of it is not their fault.
Of course I am not condeming all youth, that would be insane.
However, look at the trends! And this is 9 years ago!
**************************

Adding to the distressing conditions of recent years is the huge increase in violent crime, immorality, and family breakdown. Former United States Secretary of Education William Bennett noted that in 30 years the U.S. population grew 41 percent, but violent crime grew 560 percent, illegitimate births 400 percent, divorces 300 percent, and the teenage suicide rate 200 percent. Princeton University Professor John DiIulio, Jr., warned of the growing ranks of young “super-predators,” who “murder, assault, rape, rob, burglarize and create serious communal disorders. They do not fear the stigma of arrest, the pains of imprisonment, or the pangs of conscience.” In that land, homicide is now the second-leading cause of death among those 15 to 19 years of age. And more children under the age of four die from abuse than from disease.

Such crime and violence are not confined to one nation. Most lands report similar trends. Contributing to this is the surge of illegal drug use that corrupts millions. Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald said: “International drug trafficking has become the world’s second most lucrative business after the arms trade.” Another factor is the violence and immorality that now saturate television. In many countries, by the time a child reaches the age of 18, he has seen tens of thousands of violent acts on TV and countless immoral ones. That is a significant corrupting influence, since our personality is shaped by what we regularly feed our minds.—Romans 12:2; Ephesians 5:3, 4.

Man that is kind of scary . Our kids today may not be ready . All the violence in our schools is scary. Hopefully the parents will get on these kids and teach them some morals. i think all the broken families and missing father's hurt our kids for sure.

unfortunately here in america our future leaders will have no immune systems (because we sanitize everything now preventing their immune systems to grow and get stronger, as well as pumping them full of medication everytime they so much as get dust up their little noses...), they will all be full of excuses as to why they cannot accomplish something (ADD, ADHD, stress, bad info, parents, the list goes on. btw, i work with kids, i see this happening all the time.), and they have more problems to deal with than we could ever imagine... the environment being ruined today, the money and social security issues... the list goes on and on. our future generations in this country will be fat spoiled brats addicted to pharmaceuticals.
