Yes well hell freezes over. The US had it's belly full of the draft in Vietnam. This country will never see it again.

Very doubtful. Any administration that would mention bringing back the draft would be immediately chastised by many and if they did in fact successfully re-instate the draft (for reasons other than another world war) the country would be in an uproar and riots would be soon to follow as most of the US population is compiled of weak children of hippies that had fled the country or otherwise dodged the draft during the Vietnam war, and would much rather Rage against the Machine than fight for their own freedom.

No, it has no political backing. Just because the bleeding of the military has reached a critical stage, the draft would be very unpopular with Americans. To be honest, to get the draft reinstated would take 20 years, at the very least. Opposition would be wide spread from both conservatives and liberals.

No, because the military is such specialized training, they don't want any Tom, Dick, or Harry messing with their multibillion dollar equipment. Drafting was neccessary in Vietnam and WWII because to fight those wars, all you needed was enough bodies with guns to shoot the guys on the other side. Now, it's completely different. It's more technical, computerized (like everything else), etc. It takes the army well over 7 months to fully train a soldier who enlists now, they're not going to draft people for that.

NO, god help us! My brother was number 52 in 1970- he was a c.objector. My husband was number 17 in 1970 and fainted prior to going on the bus to be shipped over seas. and he was in lock-up stockaid with real criminals cuz he couldn't kill people. when the draft was inforced our boys ran to Canada who didn't believe in war, and pres. Ford pardon'd them. WE have learned from the past. WE will not have the DRAFT again. oddly enough, there are enough young people willing to sign up for 7 years, all my friend's kids who come from single parent homes their boys have joined. I feel that they needed the routine in their life. One is a coast gaurd, the other's been to Iraq and back& signed on for 2 more years!!the other is just being assigned now. their are medical and retirement benifits. hope this helps.

There was talk today of increasing the size of the army and marines....This could lead to the draft...Alot of kids today don't support the idea of being sent to Iraq so this could be another factor. It will be good for the country at large, putting some dissipline in to kids lives.

If conditions in a war got severe enough, we might. I personally don't think we will ever bring it back.

they should, and they might because Bush is thinking about increasing the size of our military.
I think a draft will be good, that will teach todays youth some dicipline and give them some manners.
