You don't have a an abcessed Tooth! That's the reason you'd have to have a root canal performed.

However, you may be on your way to having an abcessed tooth.

Get to a dentist and get it taken care of. Teeth don't heal, they only get worse.

And take my word for it. I have had a few root canals done, and I have never experienced such excruciating pain as an abcess. If you had one, you would not be seated at your computer typing a question.

You do not want to pull a tooth simply because it hurts. Pulling teeth creates a domino effect and leads to more tooth loss in the future. A root canal should not be painful. The most important thing is to find someone who specializes in root canal treatment. Your dentist may be able to do the procedure but probably doesn't do as many as the specialist. A root canal also costs more than an extraction. It is the best thing when needed though. Good Luck!

The only thing that hurts when having a root canal is your bank balance! I had one a couple of years ago and there was absolutely no pain! AND I HATE THE DENTIST!!!! It is time consuming - takes several visits and cost me about $1,000. Looking back, I wish I had just had the tooth pulled. The tooth is now quite grey looking. Nobody told me that that would happen. Thankfully it is near the back and cant be seen. Good-luck with whatever choice you make.

The tooth may still be salvageable. Only an xray will tell.
Root canals are not usually painful. The nerve is "killed".
A temporary filling is used until a "molded filling and cap" is made from an impression.

I've had two. The most difficult thing for me was the anxiety associated with the rubber dam in place. I have a phobia about those things. Next was keeping my mouth wide open, and the endodontist meant WIDE open. After the procedures I only took one pain pill. Piece of cake. Paying the bill was painful, but worth it.
