I guess it's banana day on yahoo answers!
Bananas ripen out of the refrigerator, just like a tomato on your counter does, but will stay fresh longer in the refrigerator after they are already ripe, just like a tomato!
It's a total myth that you can't refrigerate bananas! The misconception is probably a result of the fact that when you put a banana in ther refrigerator, its skin turns black. On the counter, a black banana is rotten, but in the fridge, only the peel is black. The banana inside will stay fresh and delicious!
I put nanners in the fridge all the time. Let it get good and ripe and then put it in the fridge if you won't be eating it right away.

the skin will turn brown within hours in the fridge but that is only changing the skin, not the banana. If your looking to ripen the banana the quickest, then leave it out of the fridge, and put it in a paper bag

The outer skin will turn brown very quickly in the freezer. If it's very warm at room temp, the bananas will most likely turn brown faster out of the fridge. The fruit inside should be the same regardless.
As the fruit ripens, starches and sugars in the skin oxidize and turn brown.

They turn brown quicker in the fridge!
Hang bananas on a rack or keep in a basket on the counter!
I'm not a chemist, so I'm not sire what is happening, but they do turn brown faster in cold temps!

they turn brown in the fridge quicker... they're still good, but just brown on the outside. If you just leave it out at room temperature, they will not turn brown as quickly.... I think they taste pretty good cold though! :)

EXPERIMENT FOR YOURSELF!!
I store mine in the frig. The skin turns brown faster but the inside, which is the only part I eat, stays fresh much longer.
Perhaps it won't be the same for you depending upon your frig, your bananas and how badly you want something to work for you !!

It depends on the temperature in your home! If its too warm and you place them in a high place, they will turn brown faster.
Want them to last longer, put in a veggie/fruit box in the fridge.
