Every Muslim that i live near ( Indonesia) will accept anyone no matter their social standing. But try walking into a mega church or any church for that matter with out your sunday best on and you will get nothing but dirty looks and snickers.
does anyone not see a problem with that?

So what I gather from one reply ios its not ok to make assumptions and judge people unless they are Muslim. "at least they are not out cutting peoples heads off".
they are not invading and occupying for no justifiable reason either... like one christian leader I know of.

I grew up in a christian home... surrounded by christianity. Forced to go to sunday school to condition me into a life of God.
I think its better to let people come to their religion when they are ready. People dont need to be sold their salvation with slick words and a sales pitch.

Actually no DC i had my experience in America. I just moved their because of my job. Im a commercial diver and Married a Muslim woman. Im from Seattle. I walked into a megachurch there ( seattle) wearing jeans and a plain t-shirt. pretty much as a result of a conversation my friend and I had about the pretense in those mega churches. I have also spent time around wealthy Muslims in the Seattle area and it is not the same. And as far as generalizations go.. not everyone in Indonesia is poor. As far as Mecca.....Im frm an "infidel " country but because I have put the time an effort into learning about them i have only to show my certificate of shahaddah and I will be accepted. I am not the only westerner that goes there. Besides it is only required of a Muslim once in a lifetime as their finances allow.

Maybe that everyone is so poor in Indonesia (sorry, it's true) so they are more accepting, because poor people tend to be humble. If they were Christian there instead of muslim, they would be all worm and fuzzy and accepting, just the same.
Try walking into a mosque near Mecca as an infidel and see how warm and friendly those Muslims would be. You can't get near Mecca is you are non-muslim. It's Saudi law. That's not pretentious?
You had one tiny experience in a tiny part of the world. You just asked this question to flame on Christians, plain and simple.

I see that you have had a limited experience with Christians. I am a pastor with earrings, tattoos, and bleached hair- and I'm accepted. I know Biker clubs full of Christians- many even in Mega Churches, I know of Goth and Punk kids that are greeted with hugs from sweet old grandmas. I think you need to broaden your scope before making a assumption like that-it screams ignorance. Any Christian who judges isn't acting like a Christian at all- Since God said that we will be known by our love- so I wouldn't call them Christians at all.

I don't know where you have gone or what you have experienced, but you are wrong in your over generalization. I have found equally pretentious people from every religious back ground just as I have found equally accepting people. I don't know who gave you dirty looks while you walked into the church, but they were wrong for doing that and I am sorry that you had to experience such horrible behavior.

I don't know, because I do not live in Indonesia. However, the Bible expressly condemnes pretentiousness as a sin. James 2:1-12

yes im a poor christian hoping to become better off soon. i find this a problem in the church i go to. There are richer people who are less intelligent than me that look down at me. I still go even though i donot give much for the collection. The church is Gods house not theirs. God is not like this its just certain christians who do not fully understand the bible. i think i need to pray for these people. i might ask God to put it in their heart to give me a large chunk of their wealth. Please never let stupid people stop you from entering Gods house.

The "dress code" may be due to local customs. In Colorado, I regularly attend a Christian Church. We always see old clothes, new clothes, dressy clothes, messy clothes... We accept everyone as they are!

There are a lot people who represent Chisitianity or perhaps Judaism badly, but at least they're not cutting people's heads off, like in the "religion of peace."

WHY DO YOU PEOPLE KEEP GENERALIZING CHRISTIANS????? Yes we are suppose to be one in the body of Christ but, I am pretty sure you see not even the Christians in this forum agree with one another so why do you expect the entire following of Christ to be on one accord? My church does not do this we tell people come as they are...It's time to go to another section...

I'm sorry if you had that reaction from someone. Please try to remember, that it was an individual not a religion that reacted badly. Anyone is welcome at my church, no matter what they are wearing. I've seen people come into my church with jeans and a tank top, and no one has made them feel any less welcome.

You are generalizing based on the experiences you have already had. Now you are judging a bigger group of people because you are unhappy with what others have done to you.
