4 x 440ml cans = 1760ml
9% of 1760ml = 158.4ml alcohol
2 x 70cl bottles = 140cl
12% of 140cl = 168ml alcohol
The lager has only 94.28% of the alchhol the wine has.

Is this a serious question coz it sounds like a joke...
4 cans of lager no matter how strong will only last about an hour... and wine is for sissies..
Percentage doesn't mean a thing when your an alcoholic... It's whatever gets you pissed quickest and for the longest.
My suggestion a 12 pack of Carling/Fosters per day till he goes to hospital then try to get him off the booze.
Hope things work out good for you and your fella :)

from a maths point of view they both work out the same as I'm sure you know but from a nutrition point of view both are a diuretic. therefore I reckon that the lager would be better as a diuretic only gives you half of the hydration (or more depends on the diuretic) It also depends on the additives in the beer/wine. Some wines contain sodium metabisulphate which is listed in care sheets as do not consume. It's a poison used to kill bacteria. 1g kills a full grown black rat. ld50 test.
I prefer wine, red has some benefits but I think the beer might be better.
get plenty of natural vit C into him too, and other water soluble vitamins as he'll piss them out with the beer.

Are you serious? How can you compere 2 bottles of 12% with 4 cans of 9% lager? The percentage is the clue! Go with the beer!

How about a non alcoholic drink. I find it hard to believe that being an alcoholic he isn't allowed to stop drinking. I think you're full of sh*t.
*As a matter of fact I do know something about it. My uncle has been fighting alcoholism for over 20 years. He quit cold turkey, yes it was hard and he went through withdrawals, but he got through it.

Whatever he decides to drink, it should be drank at intervals, if at all possible (hopefully he's a top-up, and not a binge drinker), as to prevent alcohol withdrawal fits.
And I also hope that he's already been in touch with AA.
Life needn't ever be and feel like this again.
Good luck.

Try 4 cans of a lesser alcoholic volume, 4 to 5 %, unless your doctor has told you the volumes you mentioned??? Plus Water or fruit juice, lots of it. xx

Ask his physician for advice -
Then give your man a big hug and a kiss and tell him how much you appreciate how difficult what he is going to do will be and remind him how you will be there for him!
Good luck to you both; and I wish you both a Happy New YEAR; and a Happy New LIFE together.
