You could have a rib out of place. I had one out of place and had that same kind of pain. IT's best to visit your doctor, however, especially for sudden pain when there's been no injury. We can't diagnose you on the internet, even if we were doctors. Best of luck to you.

This is not normal. I will do an x-ray to see what is going on in there. Does the pain intensify if you move the arm back and breath in?
This sound like a Vasalva's test, this test is desing to see if the patient has a herniated disk. THe test is performed when the patient increases the intra preassure. (like going to the bathroom #2) If the pain intensify. You might need a cervical MRI to rule out any disk involvement.

It depends on your age, weight, family history, smoking and other factors. So the best thing to do is to call your physician immediately.
