hi there. tricky! London has everything, so we need a different vibe... 1) Bath. Visit the Georgian areas and the Roman baths, absolutely stunning. 2) York. With the Minster and the Town Walls and the Shambles, York has a really good medieval feel and a great sense of history. 3) Durham. The cathedral and castle are must-sees, the streets around them so pretty, a definite. 4) Liverpool. A victorian masterpiece, museums and art galleries to die for. Then walk Dale Street down to the river and visit the "three graces" buildings and the Albert Dock. 5) Edinburgh (Scotland). Walk the royal mile, climb up to the castle and take the ghost tour of the underground city, a really beautiful place. Enjoy, Steve.

I personally think Cambridge is the best city in England!! We stayed there for a summer a few years ago while dad was on sabbatical and it was so beautiful. Being a university town with 30,000-50,000 people, there is a huge cultural emphasis in the town. I remember sitting outside of King's College Chapel listening to all the languages being spoken all around us by the university students. It is also an amazingly beautiful city!!! The architecture is splendid and there are many parks too. My favorite building was, of course, King's College Chapel. There are also many shops around Cambridge and a lovely marketplace. Being back in the States, I feel like I left part of my heart in Cambridge! I do hope you consider taking an excursion to this lovely city . . . you won't regret it!

There are so many wonderful places to see in England, depending on what you are interested in. Great Yarmouth (spelling?) had a nice boardwalk/carnival when I was there. Stratford upon Avon is Shakespear's home. Sherwood Forest (Robin Hood of course!) is fun especially for children. You would have to do a bit of research on this one, because I forget the name. They have a walk-through/train ride display of Chaucer's Tales and is wonderful during Christmas time. A travel guide would probably give you more insight, but hopefully these suggestions help.

Depends what you want to do! If you want to go to a very picturesque city with great non-chain shops then try Bath, (about 90 minutes by train from London Paddington) or if you want a lively evening in a vibrant city then try Newcastle, (just stay central!) or if you want if you want a bit of history and pubs try York.

I would either say Brighton or Newcastle.
Brighton is full of shops and a great nightlife, there is alot to do.
Newcastle is best for shopping, restaurants and clubs.
They are miles apart from each other but i would visit one of them.
However it does depend on what you want from the city. If its history and culture visit Bath or York.
For nice picturesque places visit the Peack District or the Lake District they are beautiuful.
But as i send depends on what you want to see
Merry Christmas!

Stratford on Avon is nice. It is set up like the time of Shakespeare's day. You can see Shakespeare's house and there are quaint little shops named after his play. A nice restaurant called " As you like it." Montagues bank to name a few and don't forget to get a tarrot reading at a place called The Ginger Jar. It is awesome

Coventry has good transport links with great shopping facilities. Birmingham offers shopping, international events, and attractions. The loveliest town in England, Ludlow, offers food fairs and speciality food shops. Hope you enjoy your visit. Cheers!
