I asked this question before and I did not get any satisfactory answers so I will ask again.
I thought of this question when was thinking about Christ being a Jew along with all of his followers. But now they are just called Christians, not the Jewish Christians or something like that. I am looking for an explanation for all examples not just this one examle about Christians.
Thanks.

When core beliefs carried by Christianity were found to be so different from that of Judaism that the two could no longer be identified as even being similar. Just as Mormonism or The Jehovah's Witnesses have done with Christianity. They are so far from the main core beliefs of the central Church that they have become religions into themselves... Jim

If a group branches off, it's still pretty much the same "religion" but with a few doctrinal differences.

The early Christians didn't "branch" off of Judaism. It was totally new.

Jews that believe in Jesus are called Messianic Jews. (Jews that believe the messiah has come)

ADDED - There is no difference between Messianic Jews and Christians other than Messianic Jews are Jews who believe in Jesus, and Christians are gentiles that believe in Jesus.
