A week ago my cat got out all day long, it was her first time going out and she did not come back until that night. Now she sits next to the door crying to go out. I am not going to let her out, I live in an apartment complex and it is not safe.

Also she has been very annoying since the day she went out, she opens cabinets and knocks things down, she never did this until that day.

Please help me she is being so annoying with the constant meowing and crying to go outside.

I also live in an apt complex. Before I adopted my cat he was a stray so he knew how great the outdoors can be.I started taking him out on a harness(get the kind that wraps around the body, not the neck)take her out for 30 mins whenever you have time. Its best to do it in the evening when things have quieted down.Cats love to explore so I think being outdoors stimulates him.He so happy when he has grass between his toes, sunlight on his furry body and all the sights and sensations of the outdoors.I do this for him because it can be boring being couped up all day inside. If I dont have time I sit on my balcony and that pleases him. Try not to make it a daily thing otherwise every night she'll do the annoying meowing by the door.Good luck

my sisters cat did the same thing but she was an outdoor cat for 10 years, before she had to be moved in for safety reasons. within a couple of months she was okay with being inside. because she had some good catnip toys & interactive toys that run on batteries so you can have them going even when you are not home. every once and a while she will sit by the door and meow, but nothing like in the begining. hopefully your cat will chill out after a couple more weeks.

My cat was a feral cat, so when I first got him, he was dying to go outside. He would sit at the door and meow. So, I would play with him, and that worked everytime. I think cats get bored easily.

I still felt guilty about locking him up. So I bought him a cat harness. I bought a cat harness, not a collar, and the retractable leash (separately) is about 25 ft. long. Now I can take my kitten for walks outside, and he's supervised. The length of the leash gives him some freedom. He just stiffs at everything.

OK, my Cat does the exact same thing. She got out one time, and she didnt come back for five hours! When she did, she was also opening cubbords, and knocnking things down. The most irritating thing is when she sees a glass sitting on the table, or floor, she will go 'bat' it over with her paws. I finally gave into her though, an dI let her go outside. I live in a safe town home area, and I just got a harness for her, and a long leash that i connected to a pole...and now she can go outside whenever she wants to.

I have 3 cats and where I used to live they could go outside whenever they wanted. Since moving, it's not safe, so they are indoor cats now. At first it was hard for them. I just ignored them when they meowed at the door. When they weren't meowing and on their good behavior, I rewarded them with playtime, toys, catnip, ect and it worked. Plus after awhile, they get used to it and learn meowing doesn't help them.get what they want.
Good luck!

Now that she has experienced a wider area than the apartment she might be feeling bored with your place. Cats like to explore and they need to be entertained if they are confined. She's much safer indoors--I wouldn't give in and let her roam. If you have the time to spend with her you might consider taking her outside on a harness, but if she loves it she will beg to go out daily. If you can't spend that much time entertaining her then I'd keep her in and get her some toys. She will eventually forget about her fun outing and settle down again.

You know what I did? Keep the cat busy. If you have a place for it, your cat will love it as well. What I did was a have a 10 gallon fish tank in my room. (I actually use it for a pet lizard, but you can do this without a lizard). In the tank you put a natural outside inviroment in it. (like dirt, grass, rocks, small bits of tree trimmings.) In the tank you keep crickets. Make sure you only allow small, or wingless crickets in the cage, or you will have to deal with cricket noise all night. They make wire tops to put on those and you deffinatley want to have on of those on it. My cat just sits and watches the crickets run in the cage all day, and they can smell the dirt, and grass and will just sit on top of the cage all day. My cat has been quiet since and neer have to deal with her meowing all night anymore.

Assuming she has been spayed she will get over it if you don't let her out. Just say "No, you are an indoor cat!" That reinforces you in your determination to keep her in (a very wise decision). Just say that and walk away to do something else. Cats are extremely persistent and she will be annoying for a while and she will eventually accept her indoor status.

Of course if she still needs to be spayed that will help her get over her desire to go out too.

My cats are also indoor cats. Ive lost too many over the years, and the outdoors is just not safe! Get her some toys, and ignore it. Ive found a cat tree makes them forget all about outside, something they can really exercise on. Just stay firm, you are doing the right thing, she will get over it. Right now her exicting escape is fresh in her mind, but she will forget, especially if you get her a new toy.

Do you have a patio or balcony? If so, why not turn it into a Catio? My aunt built one up against the side of her house around a window- built of plywood and chicken wire, it's a safe way for her indoor cats to be safe in the outofdoors.

A lot of companies make tents/enclosures/playpens etc for cats for just this purpose.
