It depends on how infected the tooth is! If you take antibiotics for 7 days it will not hurt at all, you will be able to get numb. If you cannot take the pills for 7 days first there is a possibility of pain during the procedure.

Most people say the PAIN is really from the tooth before the root canal. After that it is dead and has no feeling at all. You may want to take Advil for for gums and inflammation afterward though!

Have Fun!!

I've had several root canals and crowns and I can tell you that for me, no, they weren't painful. I think they get a bad rap, what is painful is the infected tooth that causes you to need a root canal in the first place. Remember that you will have local anesthetic and therefore no pain while the root canal is in process. Each time I had a root canal I was prescribed pain medication in case I needed it afterwards, I never needed it.

Not really. The hardest part is sitting there for so long, tasting the metal of the drill and tools, and the multiple visits. My root canal wasn't a bad experience. Personally, I would rather have a root canal than a tooth cleaning or an eye exam where they touch your eyeball with that thing.

I had a root canal on my front tooth and they pumped me so full of Novocaine that I didn't feel a thing.

It was maybe a little sore for a few days, but it's not that bad. I wouldn't worry about it.

With a good dentist they are not bad at all, with a bad dentist, they can be bad.

My first one, the dentist was a butcher. I was in agony.

My 2nd one, I expected excrutiating pain and there was just the usual dental discomfort. I loved the 2nd dentist. Then he had the nerve to move away and start his own practice.

i dont think so, my mom came home after having two and she was swollen but she wasn't in much pain. Also two of my friend have had one, and when i saw them the same day, I was like "Did you even go to the dentist" cause they seemed fine.
