Studies have shown that the more religious a country is (the higher proportion of citizens attending some sort of religious service regularly), the higher the crime rate. I'm assuming this is because these people put the laws of their religion above that of their country, or because their religion allows them to do whatever they want as long as they believe, and they're looking forward to a great afterlife and don't really care about this one.

I'm sure they've had their share at one time or other. Japan is largely Buddhist. Sweden is like, used to be part of the Viking lore, so...? I guess they got it out of their system. But Sweden actually had a very wise Catholic Queen, did she not? Or was it that Bridgette in the 1300's...she went to Jerusalem to find the original cross that Christ was crucified on, along with Queen Helen and some other chickie. Maybe the effects of that are lasting a long time. And don't forget Japan suffered a great loss that subdued not only them but all others in the world when they were bombed. I mean, that was violent. really violent. And they were violent during the war. Ask any Korean or Chinese.
Crimes are different, and criminals are treated differently in different countries and the statistics for crime are gathered differently. People used to say Canadians weren't violent, but someone had to prove them wrong...I don't think it has to do with religion per se. More like with the prevalence of drugs.

What exactly is PostChristian? Are you trying to say that Japan was once a Christian nation? Maybe if America threw away the key after making some arrests, our crime rates would go down too. It's possible the liberals, whose morality is questionable and overtaking America, are too lenient on criminals. Don't blame Christianity.
Merry Christmas.

One reason may be that in Christian countries, there's more compassion and forgiveness for those who commit crimes -- thus, there's less deterrence.
In many non-Christian countries -- including Japan, where I currently live -- there's more of a "guilty until proven innocent" view on crime, as well as (in many cases) tougher penalties.
Also, from what I've heard, prison life in countries like Japan is much tougher than in many Western, traditionally Christian nations.

I think Pheonix has the answer. Also, those countries seem to have a better social net for people to fall back on instead of commiting crimes. That'spossibly why the crimerate is so much lower in Canada that theUS, even though we live almost identical lives except for social services

Examples? I bet it all comes down to money, power and control, and has nothing to do with religion. Your questions is like saying, "Where there are more churches, there is more crime." Well of course there is more crime, the population is probably higher as there are more churches in the area. There is no correlation between churches in an area and crime in an area. Your question is without facts to back it up. Sorry Charley!

Post Christian countries don't have the humanity laws that Christian countries do. If you committ a crime in Christian countries you go to jail. If you committ a crime in post Christian countries you are executed or you loose a body part.

You need to cite examples-not just say some question that seems to have no validity. If the country is...let's say Muslim- then the government pushes the churches rule- instead of Christian ones that suggest it and pray people will follow the rule. Big difference-one you are free to decide-the other-religion is shoved down your throat and you have no free will.

What do you mean "post?" You mean Muslim countries? They have lower crime rates because they kill you and your family, or at least torture you and your family, if you commit a crime. That's sooo much better!
