From looking @ your avitar you appear to be African American...

Let me let you in on a little something... Natural/Nappy AA hair is not meant to be combed or brushed while dry.. Keep it up and you'll have breakage in your hairline, along with your combs.

You should wash and condition your hair, then use a WIDE toothed comb, or a detangling brush (such as the Denman detangling brush) and do what you need to do while your hair is wet, and has leave-in conditioner in it... Then pick your afro into place (afro pick with the fist on the end). or hit it with a blow dryer on low heat while using the pick.

If you live in a colder climate and can't leave the house with wet hair..... Stick your afro pick in warm water and then spray your hair with a bit of leave in conditioner and then start picking it.

But whatever you do.... put the small tooth combs down for good.

Using conditioner when you wash may help, if you don't already.

Pulling so hard you break the comb will only make the tangles worse and will probably damage your hair. When you comb, start by only combing the ends of your hair. Gradually work up to combing longer lengths as you work out the lower tangles.

you could try relaxing your hair...you can get a perm at a drugstore or walmart for like $6 in the black hair section. all of them work. you could try buying a straightener or an iron comb and straightening your hair...it makes it easier to comb and less thick and coarse. my hair used to do the same...i just started straightening it every 3-4 days and perming it like 2 times a year, if that. make sure you keep your hair moisturized...that also helps....i suggest Luster's Pink Oil

OK YOU WANT A HOME REMIDY? YOU ARE NOT GONNA BELIEVE THIS BUT HERE ARE SEVERAL AND THEY DO WORK, OKAY HERE GOES, RAIN WATER TO WASH YOUR HAIR AND MANAISE AND WRAP YOUR HAIR IN A TOWEL FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES, YOU CAN ALSO USE A HAIR DRYER, WORKS GOODS WITH THE MAYO, OTHER WISE A GOOD HAIR CONDITIONER FROM THE STORE, BUT GIVE THE OTHER ONES A TRY ....

omfg...you break the comb??!!
well...you can always go to a salon, and thin it. it doesnt cost that much $. my sister had it done.
however, i also have thick hair, and it is beautiful. i just think that thick hair is beautiful. just use a DETANGLER, or cut it shorter. good luck!

RUB CONDITIONER IN IT BEFORE COMBING--REMEMBER TO WASH IT OUT EVERYDAY OR YOU'LL END UP WITH LOTS OF FLUFF AND DUST IN IT
