I told my Nurse that I needed to go up to 3 mg of Klonopin instead of 2 mg a day because I've been taking 2 mg for over 18 months now and I've built up a complete tolerance to the 2 mg and I told her about my insomnia that I'm having, so she wrote me a prescription for Temazepam 15 mg and I'm only allowed to take 15 mg every other night. So, the other nights I have to take Benadryl, 5HTP (which doesn't work) or Tylenol PM.
Do you think I should start looking for a new Nurse or Doctor?

To: Cat46, Why would I go to rehab for taking 2 mg of Klonopin?

To: Dragonkisses My nurse is a nurse practitioner and she calls the prescription in under the doctors name but why couldn't a regular nurse do the same?

It sounds like you should make an appointment with your nurse practitioner and tell her your concerns. From your narrative, it seems as though your problems are two fold: anxiety and insomnia. Those two are a tough combination. Its difficult to make a recommendation without knowing the whole story which I understand is not possible here. Maybe you could consider asking for a referral to a psychiatrist for medication management. This doesn't imply that you are "crazy" or anything! Some psychiatrists focus specifically on meds and they have a lot more options for treatment than internists med wise. I hope this helps. Oh, one other side item, the active ingredient in Tylenol PM is benadryl, so just take one or the other so you don't double dose. I just read the post about Xanax. It is a terrible drug for anything over a few days because of how it works. It's like a roller coaster in that it has marked hi's and then lows where as the Klonopin you are on now is meant for more long term because there are no hi's and low's, does this make sense? It's hard to explain, but Xanax has a terrific abuse potential. I would stay away from it! Only NP can write prescriptions because they have additional schooling and they have a DEA number which allows them to write prescriptions for certain drugs, every state varies. whew...

Unless your nurse is a nurse practitioner, he/she should not be writing prescriptions, and even then, they are limited on the type of prescriptions that they can write. Try talking to your dr. If you get no results from that, then yes, I would start looking for another dr.

No, but I suggest you ask your nurse or doctor about getting off the Klonopin entirely and switching to something else. Xanax is a good substitute, Buspar may also be helpful.

Sorry to rain on your parade but 1/0=∞ mathematically is a trivial solution so a proof cannot be based on it.
