It means that someone has attached a document or picture to the e-mail. You can download the attachment to look at it and save it to your computer if you want.

The paper clip indicates that there is an attachment to the message. Simply click on it and another window will open. You can either open the attachment (which can be photos/jpegs/gifs; adobe/pdf; excel, or word files), or save it to your computer.
