I believe the term gain popularity as sort of a counter movement to the crusades of the middle ages. I know of one "jihad" that pushed the Islamic movement as far as southern Hungary, but was pushed back as they approached Vienna. Thus, it would be thought of as a fanatical war-cry of sorts for Muslims.. The same could be said for the term of Crusades, for Christians.

The spiritual struggle against evil. Jihad is the duty of all mainstream Muslims, or Sunnites. There are four ways they may fulfill a jihad: by the heart, the tongue, the hand, and the sword. These refer to the inner, spiritual battle of the heart against vice, passion, and ignorance; spreading the word of Islam with one's tongue; choosing to do good and avoiding evil with one's hand; and waging war against non-Muslims with the sword. Most modern branches of Islam stress the inner, spiritual jihad. But Islamic law also states that all nations must surrender to Islamic rule, if not its faith. The Koran states that those who die in a jihad become martyrs of the faith, acquiring a special place in heaven.

If you buy into the deception, it truly means, you are of the devil, serpent seed, Kenites, sons of Cain who was the first murderer.

Very little. Political Correctness has become a religion replacement for many Christians.

Jihad is considered a "cleaning" of Western Thinking from pure Islam. This means that there can be no compromise, in any nation, with Muslim Sharia Law. ALL people on earth MUST submit.
